To Tweet Or Not To Tweet

Good morning knapplc,

I hope you are well. Thanks for checking with the Compliance office! It is always great to hear from fans who want to ensure they are adhering to NCAA rules. It is not permissible for fans to publicly comment on or hold public conversations with prospective student athletes, regardless of whether or not they have signed. This includes dialogue on Twitter and Facebook.

I hope this answers your question, again thanks for checking with us. Please feel free to email if you have additional questions.

Would this include talking about a recruit on a public message board?

Good afternoon,

The answer to your question is no, fans are not permitted to contact prospective student-athletes using social media forums such as Facebook and Twitter in order to recruit on behalf of their school. Recruitment of prospective student-athletes is governed by NCAA legislation and may only be performed by institutional coaching staff members. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Just because its "not permissible" doesn't mean it's enforced. It really is nothing to worry about because it can't and won't be stopped and the NCAA will not do anything about it.

I'm waiting to hear a story about some guy, who was habitually tweeting possible recruits, covered in Cheeto dust, in his tighty whitey's, buffing his helmet to recruit tweets...

Just to sum up the thread.

Fans tweeting recruits is inpermissable. Fans that actually tweet recruits are impermissably creepy.

The NCAA has no way of enforcing this idiotic rule.

Knapplc is celebrating his 100th birthday.

It scares me that you're a teacher of children. I've never seen a more ill-prepared person for such a job.
The fact that you would use something from someone's profession, outside the board, so you can take a swipe at some "low hanging fruit" is pretty bush league...
