Transfer Portal Targets 2022

Yes he was the fourth running back in the spring game due to his effort he had given in practice but coming into this season you can't tell me that you didn't look at him as one of our top running backs on the roster.  He was our number 2 rb last year.  Everyone thought he was going to transfer out at the end of the season last year and since he didn't, we all held out hope that he was going to adjust to the style of our current coaches but once you saw he wasn't putting in the effort in practice then you started to question his place in the running back room.
If the effort isn’t there, then he’s #4.

There’s a reason the effort wasn’t there, he obviously didn’t want to be here. So, he would have stayed at #4.

Right I agree but nobody knew his effort wasn't going to be there for spring practices.  Before spring practice even started we all thought he was going to be one of the lead backs and then when the highlight video of the running backs was shown his effort wasn't there then you questioned where is place was going to be.  Like I said earlier it hurts to see him go but others may disagree with that bc of him not doing what he needed to do to succeed for the team bc of his effort this year not last.

It hurts that he wasn’t putting in the effort. But, since that’s where his head was, it doesn’t hurt that he’s leaving.

Not shocking it was Allen. He had the highest ceiling but shoot, can’t waste time on someone who doesn’t want to work, especially when the lights are on.

I hold out a little hope for Ervin, he appears to be the most complete back of them all thus far, but nothing stands out yet. I did like him…trucking Omar Brown for that TD in the spring game.

Wouldn’t be surprised if 1-2 DBs, 2 LBs, 1-2 DL, 1 TE transfer out. Perhaps even another WR and QB leave too (Smothers>Purdy, IMO). Fill in the gaps with transfer and Walk-Ons.

I also imagine several more departures during/after the season to clear room for more incoming recruits and transfers - OL/DL/LB. Those are a few position groups with a glut of schollies at the same year and the writing is on the wall if they aren’t 2-deep.

So what is the sorry about E. Johnson - Mr Minnesota player of the year running back.  Was he out wt injury this spring?  If not, has he had no impact on the RB room?

He played in the spring game. He was at the time a reach. Will probably be your fourth string back.

Actually, it closed last night.
Believe schools have 48 hours to enter them into the portal so you may see more names pop up after.

We may be deep at RB even with Allen transferring out, but IMO we're not strong there. It's a little surprising to me that we haven't gotten a better option at RB out of the portal because it looks pretty clear to me that this is going to be a power run offense.

I feel like running back is possibly the position in football where coaching matters the least. But still, I hope that coaching can do something for this group heading into fall camp, even if that "something" is just motivational in nature.

Running the ball is clearly going to be the focal point of our offensive scheme.

The coaches given the relative rest of the roster feel quite strong about the stable of running backs. Should be better with slightly better OL play/identity/etc. not sure I saw in the portal who would be a crazy upgrade.

The bold part is fair. I'm positive you're paying much closer attention to that than me.

One thing that maybe isn't as clear yet is whether most of our running will be between the tackles/tight ends or if there'll be a fair amount of going outside. When we're running these big sets with two tight ends or 11 man with a fullback and running inside, it's a big mixing bowl of bodies. Your back has got to explode and be capable of bouncing off guys because your strategy is to control the game and grind out drives.

Two of the three top guys haven't really shown they can do that, with one of them being kind of unproven in that area. Despite what the coaches say (which is always going to be overly positive this time of year), we have to make a lot of headway with our RB play to make this scheme successful, IMO.

I like to disregard what coaches say. Rather… pay attention to what they do. Think if they needed another back a few would be processed to make room.

I bet we're a "balanced" offense with about 2/3 of the snaps coming out of the shotgun.
