Triaging the QB room

15 of the pass attempts in the Illinois game from the video above shown had outlet options or were designed quick slant/quick out patterns as first reads.

Do I have NU’s playbook? No. Do I understand pass plays and coverage in general? Yeah, I only played the position in college and it’s pretty easy to tell a first read when he literally takes a 1 step drop, stares at the receiver and throws the quick slant or quick out like to Coleman :dunno .

He was nowhere close to throwing 15 passes on a one-step drop.  So either you're exaggerating the first number greatly or guessing a lot on who the first read was.

I never said he was.

Outlets to the RB can be but are not usually first reads which is why I included “or”.  HH had an option to dump it off more often than not on play action or traditional drop backs which is one of the things you asked for.

Also, we don't seem to have options to check it down to RBs a lot either.

ESPN has graded the 46 D1 transfer QB's.  Sims got a D-.

Jeff SimsNebraska Cornhuskers

Transferred from: Georgia Tech

2023 stats: 220 pass yards, 1 TD pass, 4 interceptions, 156 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD

How he has fared so far: Sims brought starting experience and dual-threat skills to Nebraska's offense under a new coaching staff but had a very rough start before an ankle injury late in a Week 2 loss to Colorado. The accuracy and turnover issues that surfaced at times during his time at Georgia Tech showed up as he had three interceptions in a painful opening loss to Minnesota, and then three more giveaways (two lost fumbles, one interception) in the Colorado debacle. Sims' running ability jumped out -- he had a 57-yard touchdown run against Colorado -- but so did the mistakes, and Nebraska is moving forward with Heinrich Haarberg at QB.

For comparison Logan Smothers got a B- & Casey Thompson got an incomplete.

Stanford was 1-4 this morning.  They were averaging 19.2 ppg, #118 in the country.

They just put up 46 on Colorado.  36 in regulation.  In Boulder.  With Travis Hunter back.

Only Eastern Michigan scored fewer points against Minnesota than Nebraska did.  .  Everyone else has scored 24+ points on them.  They gave up 37 to Northwestern.

Can we please stop talking about how much tougher defenses Sims played than HH?  Before we lost two of our best three running backs from the team that runs it the second-most often in the country.

How bad do we suck, huh?
