Trick plays against OU

I was dissapointed to see the pitch back reverse on the opening kickoff. It was not the time nor place imo. After that I'm not sure we ran another trick play, can anyone confirm this? I know the situation has to be right, but the hb pass can be set up from either hash mark, right? I thought I would see something since we weren't getting any points with the good field position, yet kept getting chances. Any thoughts why we pulled out all the stops against the buffs, but were as predictable as the tides after the first kickoff?

I don't think we were that predictable, although I was wondering why we didn't get back to the run that much after we got down by a few scores. We did in the second half, but letting OU out of their own endzone was an absolute back breaker!

No one on offense could make plays tonight. It was very dissapointing. The plays where there, recievers were open, but Taylor throws INT's. Come on Zac, you're better than that.

No other trick plays. Hard to do against the fast OU defense. Not too mention we were struggling and I didn't really see any opportunities to try one. OU seemed to try one but it failed.

Hats off to the OU D backfield pretty good play for the most part. Kept Mo out of the game

That could have influenced not throwing HB passes and such. ZT def needed more heat on the ball on those pics.

With the penetration that their Defensive ends got it is very hard to run the variety of "trick plays" that Cally likes to run. Look at how much trouble ZT had with JUST PASSING the ball .... for trick plays to happen you need AT LEAST a little bit of time.

I know Cally is going to study this film VERY carefuly because every single weakness that we had .... OU capilitsed on them.

We will be a better team after this loss .... this I promiss you!

GBR!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think that we planned the reverse on the kickoff return very well. It was kicked to the middle of the field so there wasn't exactly a whole lot of misdirection to gain with the hand off. Plus, it was quite obvious that it was coming when Jackson had to run backwards to get the handoff as opposed to running sideways. When we would run the reverse in high school we were told, that the ball was to be returned to the left side (just an example). That way the returners knew that if it was kicked to the right, it would be just a simple left return. But if it was kicked to the left, the two return guys would go ahead with the reverse to try to fool the defense. I am not for sure what the rule was if the kick was in the middle but I think it was just do a simple left return.

:yeah Exactly...........I was confused to see it on the opening kickoff..........I figured after a while since we couldn't get things going any minute we would see some trickery!!!! We needed something to spark the offense and it just never happened.

Actually, while poorly executed, it was a good call. That opening kickoff is when teams are at their emotional peak - and that means that they over-commit to plays going one way. Great time to try some kind of reverse...

agreed and I also think for a play like that you need someoneone with more speed to take the reverse...marlon lucky perhaps.

Oh well.............we can't hope for fake punts and direct snaps to the running back all the time. It was fun to watch against sCUm, but we weren't in the same type of situation. It just sucks knowing that we have a good team here and people will think differently even more now..........
