Trump vs. Musk - who will win the race to become the first US dictator?

My honest gut feeling is we have a Dem President in 2029 in charge of fixing a big mess and charged with attempting to repair any remnant of trust between the public and government.
I am kind of with you on this.   This is the Yugest overreach by any incoming administration in my life time.  The Felon knows he has 2 years before the sh#t hits the fan.  The midterms will be Yuge and the Dems better play their cards correctly.  They also need to determine fairly quickly who they want their nominee to be in 28.

Regarding the original post:  If the GOP holds serve in 2026 and retains the house and senate and wins in 28 it will be with JD Vance who will be the first dictator.

And then what?   Everyone said “ok cool, you broke the law but what ev’s.  Carry on”.
If by "Everybody said 'ok, cool, you broke the law" you mean to say that the FBI released a report after a years long investigation that found that the sever did not contain any information or emails that were marked classified and not to bring charges because she did not intend to break the law, then sure. (This is in contrast to the Trump case, where the FBI found he actively took steps to conceal the hoarding of documents - like asking his lawyer to hid documents for him. The indictment cites Trumps lack of cooperation and uses his own words against him LOL BUT IM SURE YOURE AWARE OF ALL THAT SINCE THIS IS SUCH AN IMPORTANT ISSUE TO YOU)

But hey, I get it, you vote and support a party that is currently engaging in a lawless rampage through the federal government because conservative orthodoxy has brainwashed huge swaths of voters into thinking the Gubbermint is bad. A former political party that is now a historical embarrassment - currently being pillaged by the wealthiest man in the world. You internally feel shame about that, and justifiably so.

I will once again implore you, and other Republican voters, to stop voting. I'm not sure what more evidence you really need to see at this point, but I figured I'd try again to appeal to your sensibilities.

Yeah, that actually wasn’t the outcome of the investigation.   Comey went and said “well we found wrongdoing, buuuuuuuuuuut I’m gonna go ahead and make the assumption no reasonable jury would convict so we won’t move forward with charges instead of actually allowing a jury to decide if the criminal wrongdoing was worthy of conviction” 😃  obviously the quotes aren’t direct wording.

I know, Right

Pretty much. It soon came out that Hillary was far from the only government official using a private email server, including Mike Pence.  The uncool part is that it allows the official to hide private correspondence about government matters -- and that's illegal -- although everyone with a job and two email addresses could understand why that would be so tempting. If you were to rank this gross miscarriage of justice over other events in the last 10 years, where would it land, Archy?

And did "nothing" come of the investigation of Hillary's emails? When Comey merely announced the investigation 11 days before the election, Hillary's 10 point lead in the polls disappeared overnight. It may be the single biggest reason Donald Trump was elected President. The ultimate "findings" didn't matter a whit and wouldn't even crack today's news cycle if lodged against Trump.

My answer is…depends on what’s in the email correspondence.   Did it help hide or help lead to other gross miscarriages of justice?

The funniest part of all this is that the director of the FBI helped get Trump elected.  But....then Trump cries that the FBI was so horrible to him...bla bla bla....

Trump throws Musk under the bus so to speak.  Just like the tariffs and the White House ambush of President Z, trump's not well thought out, shoot from the hip plans on DOGE aren't going well.  Count the days, weeks, or maybe months before Musk resigns after having his ego stepped on.   There isn't room in this WH for these 2 Yuge ego maniacs.

President Donald Trump convened his Cabinet in person on Thursday to deliver a message: You’re in charge of your departments, not Elon Musk.

According to two administration officials, Trump told top members of his administration that Musk was empowered to make recommendations to the departments but not to issue unilateral decisions on staffing and policy. Musk was also in the room.

The meeting followed a series of mass firings and threats to government workers from the billionaire Tesla founder, who helms the Department of Government Efficiency, that created broad uncertainty across the federal government and its workforce.  DOGE’s actions have faced ferocious resistance in court and criticism from Democratic lawmakers and some Republicans.

The president’s message represents the first significant move to narrow Musk’s mandate. According to Trump’s new guidance, DOGE and its staff should play an advisory role — but Cabinet secretaries should make final decisions on personnel, policy and the pacing of implementation.

Musk joined the conversation and indicated he was on board with Trump’s directive. According to one person familiar with the meeting, Musk acknowledged that DOGE had made some missteps — a message he shared earlier this week with members of Congress.

Trump stressed that he wants to keep good people in government and not to eject capable federal workers en masse. But his administration has in recent weeks fired tens of thousands of federal workers across numerous agencies in a series of blanket terminations. A federal judge and the chair of a federal civil service board have both concluded that the terminations were not tied to performance issues — and may have violated civil service laws.

EFFICIENCY!!!!

:sarcasm

These clowns needed a meeting to tell them that they were in charge of the depts they were confirmed by the Senate to be in charge of?  What a dysfunctional s#!t show.

Why the GOP goes along with this is amazing.  The GOP govt could still get many of these policies without the high risk of destroying any progress in the next election.

Sucking up to Putin doesn't help the GOP agenda.

Mass firing federal workers willy-nilly doesn't help the GOP agenda.

Placing, removing, placing and removing  (in my best Micheal Scott voice: "SNIP, SNAP, SNIP, SNAP!!!")  "random" tariffs does not help the GOP agenda.

Carelessly hurting the water supply in California for irrigation doesn't help.

All of the childish insults and deflecting doesn't help the agenda.

You get the point.

How any serious political party was overtaken by this clown is tragic.

Yes,  I thought back in 2016 that Gov Kasich could have gotten much of the stuff done but without the baggage, with working WITH Dems and with dignity and maintaining national integrity.  But the cult leader aided by Russian disinformation turned the minds of many to mush and we have had 8 years and now going on 12 years of chaos.

My libtard butt was a Kasich supporter too!

That still doesn't quite add up. In 2016 Trump's closest challenger was Ted Cruz, an even less likable alternative. Lightweight and right wing Ben Carson polled well ahead of Kasich. Kasich was in the game long enough to consolidate all the Never Trump votes, which the RNC was actually pulling for. There just weren't any Republican voters willing to go along.

Which suggests the minds of Republicans were already mush.
