Twitter Integration

AR Husker Fan

Team HuskerBoard
If you haven't yet, take a look at THIS SUGGESTION in the Board Feedback forum. I honestly don't know a lot about Twitter - what little I've used it has convinced me it's kind of the Internet version of white noise - but if we select the right feeds, it could be kind of nice.

Lance, I know you kind of follow the Twitter-verse; any thoughts on this? Would we be better off looking at an RSS feed instead? What's everyone's thoughts on this?

It's not a bad idea. I would go with Twitter before going with RSS if we do anything - as functional as RSS is, Twitter is more widespread. Think Beta vs. VHS.

Only thing is, we don't want every schmoe that writes something on Twitter and hashtags #Huskers along with it to show up on our newsfeed, so we'd have to be selective. We could use some of the local journalists, which is where I get most of my info anyway. It's faster than waiting for print (or web), and it's usually as reliable or more reliable and faster than most of the "insiders" on this site, RSS, BigHuskerFan or the Scout/Rivals boards.

As for where to integrate it, I'd suggest something in a module along the right-hand side of the index page. We could replace the birthday thing with it.

IP.Board already has Twitter integration. We just have to figure out how to plug it in. LINK

The Twitter integration is just to allow members to log in to Twitter and be logged in to Huskerboard so far as I can tell for our version of the software.

Perhaps I'm not understanding what is being requested by the member, but I took the request to mean he wanted something akin to an RSS feed - that select Twitter accounts (local Husker reporters, most likely) would appear in one location on the Board and members could click and read them. If so, then the problem will be figuring out how to do that - create a module that will pull those tweets and display them.

Is that how everyone else interpretued it?
