Frost went against some of the best D's college football produced.  Not disagreeing with you, but one think Frost knows is defense....I'm sure he will have some things to work out, work on and fix at NU (If he comes!) but he will know what is good and what isn't.

As a coach? The Pac 12 is known for lacking defense. If as a player, he doesnt seem to have brought some of the 90s Husker defense to his current coaching philosophy. The way to change the current results on defense is to not bring the DC with you.
