What's this guy's deal, Knapp? He's got it in for you. I'm deleting his status updates, which he keeps putting back up.

As an injunctive measure, I've put him on moderator approval and added to his warning status.

Not sure that stops him from posting statuses, which means I might have to suspend next. Three strikes and all that, but it's a bit egregious right now. We'll see how he responds to the message.

He's off moderator approval for the present, and said he'll drop this disclosing personal information thing.

I figure one more strike and he's out.

 
I find it very discomforting that this guy was taken off Mod Approval. What is the basis for that? He's digging around the Internet looking for personal information about me and posting it here.

He says he'll stop - what's to prevent him from doing it when we're not looking? I don't want my address posted here, and that can be found pretty easily if you know where to look.

 
He's also asserted to me that he's a lawyer - but he's actually a Junior Poli/Sci major at the University of Kansas. Not exactly telling us the truth, is he?

 
He promised to stop, and I told him to respect your privacy. He agreed, so I figured he should get another chance, while I was around the board and could see if he was going to hold him to his end. So far he has. If he does anything like that again, he should be gone for good. But my read on this is that he took it personal with you for whatever reason, tried to be as obnoxious as he could until he was shut down for it, and has since cooled off.

I didn't think it was sensible to keep the punitive measures on, as I figured that would just provoke him (maybe register other accounts and start posting the same junk, which would be a mess to keep track of before we finally shut him down IP wise, or until he got bored).

It doesn't sound like he knows you personally, Knapp. Seems like some immature kid to be honest. My intention with this was to minimize any posting of your information here, because I think that the problem isn't his access to you, but his "want to" to look you up and post up links, which mod approval or even banning won't really stop. I -think- that he's done with this now, and my apologies if I handled it poorly and if he isn't.

(BRI, he was putting up numerous links from Google that mentioned Knapp in name and may have contained more details)

He's shown that he's willing to go out on the Internet and find information about me and post it here. I'm not impossible to find, it just takes some looking. I don't know this guy and I don't know what he's willing to do. Who's going to vouch for his actions?

Bottom line is this - I don't put my personal information on this site because I don't want the people likely to cause trouble to have easy access to it. It shows a definite lack of respect to have posted it here. Imagine your reaction if I posted your personal information in the regular forums.

I do not think it's too much to ask to have this curbed.

 
Guys, I've banned the account, for the following reasons. First, despite deleting the status updates repeatedly, he kept posting them. Second, he essentially is threatening both the board and Lance. As I've said before, I don't care if folks attack me - I draw the line when it happens to you.

I realize there are good reasons to handle this either way, and that there might not be a "right" way to do it - we have to make the calls as we see them. As zoogies pointed out, banning the guy or keeping him on Mod Approval may incite him to just create account after account.

I decided on a ban simply because I think this kind of thing needs repercussions to the violator. It may create additional work for us, but that's why we're all paid the big bucks.

Zoogies, thanks for jumping on this - very much appreciated.
