User "Someone" placed on Mod Preview for 72 hours

I put this guy on Mod Preview. I put two different warnings in two different threads he was posting in yesterday cautioning not to post about the person, but to discuss the topic. He either ignored that or has no idea how to post without making things personal. Yesterday I moved a bunch of posts into the shed which were personal in nature, but not necessarily personal attacks. About half were his.

I don't know what's up with this guy. He seems like some of the worst HuskerPedia refugees we had, the guys who could not grasp that HuskerBoard is a place where you talk about things, not each other. Everything seems to become an analysis of the people "Someone" is talking to, rather than a simple discussion of the topic.

He also talks in circles, contradicts himself frequently in his zeal to win the conversation, and in general he acts as if he's just trying to stir people up. So he's on preview for a while.

We'll see how it goes.

At first I think many people were thinking it was fun. Now, many have changed their tune and are getting perturbed.

He's just like others; talkin' the talk

And if he picks on me anymore; I'm taking my ball and going home.

He seems to have an agenda. I noticed in some thread he referenced me two or three times, basically saying his point or stance or whatever came from a point I brought into the thread, except I hadn't.

I got the impression he was trying to goad me to respond.

I saw that after I posted here. Got a chuckle out of that.

He clearly seems interested in instigating stuff, not having regular normal conversations. It's like he's come here with an agenda. We've had several people come to this site over the past couple of years and post in a somewhat similar manner - seemingly knowing exactly how to post stuff in politics/religion so as to get a response from others. Knows how to dig at people. Makes me suspicious that it's not an accident.

I put him back on Mod Preview and gave him a warning. Now I'm wondering if I should have just banned him.

On one hand, he's a very annoying git, much like the worst of the jokers we had when Huskerpedia imploded (and note that they mostly focused on Politics & Religion, like "someone"), so it wouldn't be a tragedy if he was banned outright. But on the other hand, he generates traffic in the forum.

Half of me wants to just ban him, the other half wants to put him on ignore. But the part that wants to keep him for the traffic he generates thinks that maybe he'll do more harm than good to HuskerBoard's image.

Looking for input. Keep him? Ban him? What to do?

I think it'll have to be determined on the basis if being an annoying git is a bannable offense. I think if he's accumulated his three warning strikes then it's justifiable. On the other hand it's possible to toe on the right side of the line while still being annoying, and I haven't frequented the Politics forum lately enough to know where he falls. Is he a "problem causer" or a "debate starter"?

I just noticed that the IP he's posting from is Russian. SatGate LLC is either in Uzbekistan or Turkmenistan.

$20 says this is one of our formerly banned members using a foreign ISP to get back to the site.

He's also logged in anonymously. Everything about this guy says trouble to me. Foreign ISP, style of posting, everything.

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

That's possible, or it could just be a privacy conscious guy who always browses via tor.

His pattern of posting is the bigger flag, I guess, but that's not definite, right?

Yeah, I don't want to rush to ban the guy. You're right, zoogies, the pattern of posting is the bigger flag. The fact that he's hiding his location and stuff is just more grist for the mill. He could be just a privacy-conscious guy, but we have members like that already (EbylHusker comes to mind right away) and they don't constantly poke the bear like "someone."

The generic username, the fact that he ONLY posts in P&R, the foreign ISP, all of that has a sour taste for me.

In a way, the fact that he posts only to Politics and Religion kind of mitigates things. He's not like formerfan, who derailed threads constantly in the Husker Football forum. That's our bread and butter forum (well, that and Recruiting). So, in a way, he's contained.
