So I was thinking, the newsletter I put out each week is pretty lame. I kinda doubt many ppl actually look at it regularly. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for stuff to add to it, or if anyone else is interested in doing more with it than I have time for?

Some ideas I had:

-a short opinion article about the upcoming game, or previous week's events -- anything husker related - something with personality to get ppl's attention

-the best board quote of the week

-link to the best article shared on the board that week

Any other ideas?

 
Well, I don't know if the Board is equiped for this, but it would be nice to have it HTML formatted - allow for formatting, splashes of color, etc. I realize that some email clients choke on HTML messages but I have to think it's very few these days.

 
During the season. It's sent by the Board to every member's registered email address (unless we set a particular member's status to not receive it). If you're not getting it, you may want to check your Board email address to see if it's current or correct. It's also possible that your ISP or your email software or client is blocking it or sending it to a Spam folder.

 
Hm - I get moderator list emails fine, but I don't think I've ever gotten one of these. Not in spam folder either. Maybe I turned it off a long time ago. But in any case, I think this would be the sort of thing that would make more sense to integrate into the site (it was mentioned that with the board upgrade we would be adding CMS features?)...easier to access, and less invasive to inboxes?

 
Don't think we want to integrate it into the Board - it's big benefit is that it goes to members who haven't been on the Board in a long time. Kind of a reminder of the Board, the Prediction contest, etc.

Not sure why you're not getting them - you can't turn it off. People can ask to be removed from the list, but to do that we change their member status. Your member status is part of the Mod group - to be taken off the list, we'd have to create a special group for Mods that don't want it, or else remove your Mod status and place you in the "exlusion" group.

I just checked both of my "regular" email addresses and I don't have anything, not in my spam folders or anything. I can't recall ever receiving one, either.

 
That is so weird. Chad's being doing one during the season for years, and it goes out to all registered members (except those that request removal). The ONLY thing I can think of is that your ISPs are killing it before it even reaches you Inbox or Spam folders. But as zoogies said, he gets the Mod emails, so if the ISPs have flagged it, it must be emails FROM admin@huskerboard.com only.

I like the newsletter from the point of view that it reaches out to members that don't visit the board regularly.

Sprucing it up with some html is a good idea. I wouldn't worry too much about email clients these days. People send plenty of html mail :)
