I'd say the D is about the same.  Neither the '23 or this group is elite.  They cannot get off the field on 3rd down.  

We should consider this season a success if we make a bowl game.  Our coaches get out-coached, we have a terrible ST, and we are weak on each LOS.  Dylan is the lone bright spot.  He's playing with a bunch of petulant kids with no discipline.

At 5-7 or 6-6 we now can't even carry aa narrative that Rhule's 2nd and 3rd years are magical.  

The good-feeling stories are evaporating.

Chasing 3?  No.  Chasing Relevance.

 
Last week I felt this team could go 9-3 or 10-2.  Now it feels like it could be 6-6 or 7-5.  We likely will lose to OSU and USC and the games against Rutgers, Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin are all tossups.  

Now, perhaps Illinois is really good this year and they will beat Penn State, Michigan or Oregon.  If so, that makes last night's loss not as bad.  

 
As I mentioned before - preseason I said 8-4,  before Illinois - a hopeful 10-2.   Now I just hope we don't stumble to 4-8.  I don't think we will but man we got to get to a bowl game and pulling out 3 more wins with how the D played and the lack of a good reliable kicker has brought back the 'heebe jeebes"  :madash eyeswear2allthatsholy :ohnoes

I hope this team has learned from the past and pulls it together to get us to - or 6-6 or 7-5 which is now my ceiling. 

 
After watching UCLA and Indiana   I don’t see more than 2 more wins with this defense, special teams, and inconsistent O line.    I was so sure with DR we would be a 6 maybe 7 team win and for me that was progress.    Don’t see it now.   I find it ironic that in the 80 and 90 Nebraska had lower admission standards so were able to take in guys that didn’t do well at academics and now that there are higher requirements we seem to have very stupid players on the field.

Penn State is going to beat Illinois by 3-4 TDs. Almost all of our games are indeed toss ups, and I'm not confident about playing on the road, or our ability to run the ball in conference.  We should beat Purdue, and that makes getting to a bowl very likely IMO, but 8 wins would be an accomplishment.

 
I dont think we will be in the NC race but i DO think that we are being very jumpy after losing one game.  Remember, most of these teams have also played there Non Con schedule and are getting into the meat of there teams.  From a talent perspective we have most of the teams left beat.  Its having faith that Rhule and co can get a good game plan together against them.

Advanced analytics has Indiana being a top 10 team. I personally don't think they are, but by the numbers, they have one of the best passing attacks in the country. 

Nebraska was atrocious in the secondary against Illinois. Even on plays where Nebraska got pressure forcing a bad throw, Illinois had wide open receivers downfield. 

Indiana has a much better offense than Illinois, so Nebraska will have its hands full. 

As for the topic, I had Nebraska at 6-6 before the season and I'm leaning towards 6-6 now. Finding 3 more wins may prove difficult, as it will require Nebraska to win close games. Something they have proven incapable of doing. 

 
Preseason I was hopeful for 7-5. I think they might win 2 more out of Purdue, Indiana, Rutgers and UCLA.

I am always unreasonably optimistic about my huskers, but until Rhule can actually catch three, and not just chase it, I’m turning into a skeptic a bit. He wins two of these close games in a row, and I’ll leave all that pessimism behind.

The 4 teams they played are 3 & 12.  The most wins by any of them have is 1.  Absolutely horrible.  Enough said.
