What about Randy Shannon for DC?

Has anyone brought his name up? Because of the stuff at Miami, he may not get another quick chance to be a HC again just because of public perception, even though he doesn't appear to be getting tied to that. But, think we could easily see him as DC at a major program again soon.

Ran a very solid, clean program down there, didn't he? I can't remember what his rep as either a coach or a recruiter is, though.

Without a prior connection to Bo, I agree: don't see it.

word is he is an even bigger womanizer than Carl. he was shot down on going texas this past year and that reason was cited as one of the main reasons.

I brought him up in the We Want Stoops thread I believe. One person mentioned on it. I said I heard this name mentioned on the radio and really started to think about it.

He, as zoogies hinted at, ran a clean program and is hard on academics as well. All the crap that went on with the booster(Shapero, or what ever his name is) Shannon was NOT involved with. Even warned the administration about the guy. He is a strong defensive mind and was a VERY good recruiter.

Now if this was Randdy Shannon back when Miami was actually The U, I would say hell no. He wasn't near the coach he is now. He has grown a bunch and I actually wouldn't mind him on the staff. However, as been mentioned, not so sure Bo would go for it, although their ideals are very similar

In 2001, Miami coach Larry Coker hired Shannon to be the defensive coordinator. That year Shannon received the Broyles Award given annually to the best assistant coach in college football.

During Shannon's six years as UM's defensive coordinator, his defenses ranked as follows in total defense nationally:

  • 2001 – 6th
  • 2002 – 7th
  • 2003 – 2nd
  • 2004 – 28th
  • 2005 – 4th
  • 2006 – 7th

There's a thread I REALLY want to make about all this DC stuff but I'd definitely get banned.

But its almost worth it, it'd be pretty damn funny.

OK...looks like Arky read my post ;) ...rumors swirling that Shannon may become Arky's new DC. So, what are we doing? I liked Shannon because you know that guy would attract top defensive recruits. I would have interviewed him on that alone and see if he would even be an option for us. We could really use a leader like Shannon for the Blackshirts.

I mentioned Shannon as well. Was good as a DC not so much as a HC. Kind of like Stoops. I really wish Bo and Co would go outside the ranks and get a big name hire with a proven track record as DC. Going into recruiting, it would help tremendously. I think Shannon would have strong ties to Flroida as it relates to recruiting.
