What are your minimum requirements for a successful season?

Mine are:

6-win regular season
Beat Colorado

The key word is minimum. I think we'll do better than this.
Mine is very similar.

7 win regular season

Beat Colorado

I too think we’ll meet or exceed that but 7 wins appears very achievable. I wanted to say embarass/blow out CU but a simple win will suffice.

6-6 with a bowl. Not making a bowl again in Rhule's second season with talent upgrade we have and our favorable schedule would be deeply troubling.

But to really move the needle and propel the program in the right direction we need 8 wins min., but probably 9 or 10 to really get peoples attention. I don't any those happening so will settle for 6.

7 wins with one coming from the final 5.

Guarantees a winning season no matter what happens in the bowl. Win the bowl and gain some major confidence going into the off season 8-5.

If Rhule somehow only won 6 games you have to seriously consider firing him.

The 2nd Year Effect is very powerful. Even in dumpster fire situations, such a Rhule taking over Baylor, Snyder's first run at Kansas State, or Leipold at Kansas, when it's the right guy you see a big bump (rarely not until year 3). Respectively that is +6, +4, +4 wins over the previous year.

Not only do you see these bumps, but Year 2  is often the largest year to year bump a coach will see at that institution. So if Rhule's big bump is just to go from 5 wins with a good or better chance in 5 others in 2023 to 6 wins in 2024, then that spells terrible news for his prospects of turning this thing around.

6 wins is progress and I would be happy.

People saying the schedule is easy aren't looking in detail imo.  We play several teams after their bye week.... more than any other B1G team I believe and we have a true freshman under center.   5 stars or not,  there will be some mistakes.

9 wins or I will be disappointed. This schedule sets up for 7-0 if you are serious about making the year 2 jump. There is no in-between for Nebraska, its talent, and that schedule. 6 wins is a step back and a cause for concern.
I'm sure you're used to being disappointed already, you are a Nebraska fan after all so...

I was told probably a dozen times during the Frost administration that not all good coaches show significant progress during year two. The situation here is soooo bad, that he needs more time!  I'm sure Rhule does too, don't ya think?

A winning record.

A 7-5 regular season would be nice to clinch it. Getting to a bowl game is huge, but if Nebraska gets to a bowl, loses and finishes 6-7 that would feel a bit underwhelming.

I personally think Nebraska is going to finish 5-7 or 6-6 this year.

Was about to type up almost the same exact post, sir.

We have to have a winning season. Even going 6-6 and then losing a bowl game to go 6-7 would be really disappointing for me. So, 7 wins.

This is one of the places where I really hate how head coach contracts are structured in this modern era. Riley made $2.something million/year, Frost made $5M/year, then we jump all the way to $9M/year for Rhule for seven years with $66M of that being guaranteed money.

The university is already having to ponder "sunk costs" even if he crashes out this year. I really hate that. The salaries should be structured around performance.

That said I really think Rhule could become one of the elite head coaches in college football. Maybe he won't do it with us, but the guy has the chops to get there, IMO. He's good.
