What are your minimum requirements for a successful season?

Minimum expectation for successful year -  Huskers cannot have 6 losses.

6 wins gets bowl game but if lose you end up 6-7 and that is not success.

A season with 7 wins will come with 6 losses and that is not success.  That's just one game over .500.  And I really felt like we should have won 6 to 7 games last year.

I mean, winning 6 is nothing special because 9 out of 14 Big Ten teams did that last year and played in bowl games.

Therefor, 8-5 would be minimum success regardless of bowl outcome.

A 6 game winning season would make it feel like a 10 year rebuild.  Same feeling with a 7-6 record.  And improving shouldn't take so long in today's college football landscape.

As an aside:

I can handle being disappointed. Let's say we didn't get Dylan or any combination of the additions. If it was HH, I would say 7 wins if he's healthy. He's never going to be a good QB and his inability to make the right throws at the right time, hinders receivers and the plays. You can't maximize your offense with a guy like him. With Dylan, his presence and ability alleviates the offense and coaches. Trust me, Utep and Colorado are not going to crowd the box. There's enough evidence that it will be lights out if they do.

Last thing, our most talented opponents recruited the hell out of Dylan. They know he's going to give them problems.

That is what my 3rd ex-wife would say to me after we had sex...but I guess the fact that I also would cry a bit was just TOOOOOO much for her.

Just while we are on the topic that @Moiraine started and I think it is a great topic...I wish I would have started it!

So, I coach with a guy that is an Iowa fan a big one, and every year we would talk about Iowa and NU.

Every single year he would start like this...

"Yeah, looking at the schedule I am hoping we win 8 games and anything over 6 wins would make most Iowa fans happy" and that was pretty much every single year and we coached together for awhile.  It was so weird to me that their "hope" was so lame.

9 wins we should always get at least 9
Yep!

First...the 9 conference games was a big mistake.

The idea that NU vs Indiana is going to be worth a bunch more in terms of viewers and ads...compared to NU vs Our Lady of Worthless Miracle is insane.    There are about 20 games a year that "matter" in terms of eye balls.

It is lame, esp when they get to 9 or 10 so often.

I’ve been one of the apathetic people lately. The Frost fiasco sucked a lot. I actually have a lot more hope now than I’ve had in ages but it’s mostly based on Rhule’s college football history and the new QB.

But again, this was meant to be “bare minimum,” not what I think or hope will happen. I think we’ll win 8 or 9 regular season games.

Oh yeah, I totally know what you meant and I get it.  I have a really good friend that hardly even watches NU anymore, he is just not all that interested anymore.

This is actually the best topic started in a long time!

The question is "minimum" requirement, and every player coach and fan knows that means bowl eligibility.

I'd add that we would need to win that bowl, or the end of the season would still feel sad.

And wow, we just jumped back up to 9 wins pretty fast. I'm certainly holding out hope, but expectation management is the name of the game for NU at the moment.

Well I did just 4-peat in EA college football 25, and Raiola left early for the draft.
