What Did We Learn: BYU Edition

I think this hasn't been brought up much but it was only one play. We were running a half back screen to Newby/Wilbon and I saw a lot of green turf in front of them. The only problem was the two lineman were in the way and interfered with him catching the pass. Both teams I thought had big breaks Jamal dropped a wide open pass and we also dropped another screen pass. Also BYU missed a third or fourth and three where they had a played wide open and he dropped it. All in all good football was played yesterday, it was the first game of the season and I was impressed with how well we handled adversity. Little things need to be fixed like o-line blocking, the field foal team, the punt team if Sam is out for a few games as well as penalties and running the ball. Also give Imani the ball to get north on third or fourth and one and get a first down which could have ended the game.

1. The line play in the first half was a complete and utter sh*tshow

2. The 2nd half adjustments were good, but not enough

3. You have the lead, run the f*cking ball

4. If this is the offense were going to see, I have three words "Bill Callahan Lite"

5. TA's inconsistency was frightening at times

6. If they'd have played a top 25 team, they'd have gotten their asses handed to them

3. You have the lead, run the f*cking ball

Those were just the plays ran after we took the lead.

I'd say the staffs commitment to running the ball is commendable considering the runs that went for minimal yards or no gain.

Of course, if they had continued to just run, then punt the ball, we'd be f'ing crying too.

And all those incomplete passes gave BYU tons more time with the ball, because TA was so accurate...

Works both ways...
So keep running and punt because a pass might fall incomplete and give BYU time?

Are we supposed to play to win the game or play to give it away?

I got a feeling either way you would b!^@h.

Seems like we realllllllly missed Cethan Carter and DPE yesterday. Hoping everyone huet or suspeneded get back soon, we need as close to full strength as possible.

Since 2003 (as far as this site goes back), Oregon State has been #116, #105, #116, #73, #78, #89, #112, #69, #109, #80, #92 and #122 in penalties per game. Only two of those years were they better than Nebraska (2008 and 2010).

Doesn't bode well for improvement on that front.

Wait...so it wasn't because of their small weight room, small stadium or the location of the school????

2003 was the season he returned to Oregon State, so the excuse for that year is probably "transition" year......you know, new schemes, etc.
