I didn't notice that but that is definitely by design. The DL - especially NT - are supposed to force the other team to double them so the LBs can run free. Looked good in game one.
Really interesting how we're playing a zone read look.
The OLB crashes hard down the line and wrong-shoulders a kick-out block. The play-side ILB sprints for the QB.
I really like that concept. Don't wait and try to figure it out. Be aggressive on both. Close the gap on the RB and the ILB has QB run or pressure on play-action.
We just need to refine it a bit. Gifford was too aggressive on one play and the back just cut outside him. Ferguson wasn't aggressive enough and left the hole open.
But I think it's a great strategy that should limit that play's effectiveness against us.
