What did we learn Indiana edition

Hopefully our coaches learned something too :dunno

curt cignetti- learns from nick saban - keep pedal to the metal

Indiana staked itself to a 28-7 halftime lead last week against Nebraska. First-year Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti wasn’t satisfied.

He let his players know that

“The only thing that counts is where you are at the end, and that’s why I keep the pedal to the metal when we’re up,” Cignetti said Friday on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“Because in this game, you can score points in bunches. Things happen. If you’re going to preach high standards, expectations but consistency — high standards, never compromise your standards. You get what you demand. Then in the fourth quarter when you’re up three or four scores, you can’t lower your standards. That’s when I’m like a maniac. … I learned that from somebody.”

“What was his name?” McAfee asked jokingly.

Cignetti quipped back, “I can’t remember.”

Cignetti was referencing legendary coach Nick Saban, who won seven national championships, including six at Alabama. Cignetti was on Saban’s staff for the first of those six while serving as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.

God, I wish our team had this mentality….

God, I wish our team had this mentality….
All season we saw NU sit on a lead in the 2nd half.  IIRC, Rhule defended as protecting the lead and teaching the team to lead.  I still think it is because of our inability to adjust on the fly.   But if Rhule was correct, the way to teach winning is all gas no breaks.  Soft mentality, soft team.  Tough mentality, tough team.

But that's got to be cultural.  It can be coached into portions of a game;  that's what coaches are always trying to do.  But for the team to be counted on to pedal to the metal the whole game it's got to be Alabama or Nebraska 90s etc.  Cultural takes time to make happen and this coaching crew.. um, may not be into that headspace at all.  Have seen a bit of it with D here and there.. but it's not ingrained or Indiana would never have happened, maybe a loss but not a freak blowout.

:yeah It is real concerning regarding the lack of production since the Colorado game. Whole halves without scoring.

Well speaking of Indiana, they have had decades of losing and are a basketball school. Yet their 1st year coach cut through their losing culture and they appear to be on their way to becoming a playoff contender. He’s proving that time isn’t the magical ingredient but discipline, desire and the right mindset.

Watch Cig on the Pat McAfee show.  That dude gets mental mindset.  It was very good imo.

Amazing what that guy has done, so far.  I love seeing that.  I do wonder if it's going to collapse at some point, of course.   If not, then maybe what we're seeing there is a Super Coach, or a great big truck load of Super Luck.  We'll see as games come and go.

The cultural successes we at Nebraska knew a few decades back are apparently not on the horizon.  So we've got to hope for what we keep seeing expressed in here:  maybe making a bowl game.  Maybe getting into the AP Top 25.  Maybe accidentally upsetting a team who is in the AP Top 25.   Etc.

Curt Cignetti. Indiana HC.  I just put Cig instead of the whole name.  Like Satt for Satterfield. He's on game day now.  Killing it.

It's logical to shorten Satterfield because we he is a coach for Nebraska.  Cignetti, not so much unless you are that intimate with his team.

Ummm.....Ok..... Lived in Indiana for a few years. Does that count.  End of the day, just easier for me.  Never really thought about it tbh.
