What did we learn UNI edition

I am no longer sure what holding is.

3 games with limited points in the 2nd half I am blaming Satt. (23 total points, 2 TD's, 3 FG's)

Still waiting for the body blow offense in the 4th.

Need some speed to take the top off the D.  Riaola is throwing well deep, but no error with little to no separation.

Raiola is slick in the pocket and calm.  No real panic.  Can extend plays in the pocket and not by running.

Fidone needs more plays that have eaten NU alive for years.  Delay block and then drag across the middle and create mismatches.  Not the swing out passes.  Dude is like 260.  His turn radius is like a semi truck in an alley.  

Rhule calling out the behind the LOS screen was great. Nice to see a coach who follows the game.

A lot of young guys with great potential.

Concerned about the D.  No real pass rush, disruption or eating blocks.  LB's not reading their keys.

Team believed the hype.  Rhule and Co need to quash that this week.

We won.  3-0 1st time since 2016 IIRC.

coaching and play calling has to be better on offense. The 2nd half offense has been pitiful.

Man, I couldn’t disagree more. Northern Iowa has running backs bigger than most well face this year and has multiple ones, they’re run heavy, don’t over index and say our run d is a question.

if anyone needs a reality check it’s fans thinking we should be shutting every team out, we only gave up 3 today lol.

People seem to forget that UNI is a solid, well-coached team.

But what truly concerns Rhule is that Northern Iowa is a program that knows how to win. Recalling a conversation he had with former Oregon and Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly many years prior, Rhule said on Thursday that it’s preferable to play FBS teams that are used to losing than FCS programs with a standard of winning.
Northern Iowa is one such FCS program. The Panthers test themselves yearly against FBS opposition, having lost one-score games to Iowa State in 2019 and 2021 after defeating the Cyclones most recently in 2016.

Couldn’t agree more about #1. Nothing like posters openly pining for an offense that can go vanilla in the 2nd half behind a lead and strong defense only to b!^@h and complain when games come around that weren’t not trying to hang 50+ every week lol

We were missing 2 starters the 1st.  I thought we did a better job in the 3rd qtr. when Gbayer played.

 
Our pass blocking combined with Raiola's ability to stay calm as the pocket shifts & closes and keep looking for guys to pass to is seriously so good. Like it is seriously so good.

It is mind-boggling that this kid is 19 and that this is basically the same base offensive roster as last year. I know there are some new faces, but still. The offense is legitimately night & day different.

The strides that we took this offseason to get to this point cannot be overstated.
