What Did We Learn - Wisconsin Edition

I feel like Holgorsen had Raiola getting the ball out fast on quick outs. So we were attacking the outside edge of the flat to the wideouts in ways we haven't really done that often this season.

Those plays were often just getting 3 yards as they were little curls or come backs. But we either got the three yards or we dropped the pass, as opposed to the little dinks to the inside/middle of the flat where we'd often get tackled for no gain because the play needed blocking or was on a bit of a delay.

But the biggest thing was the attacking mindset that the offense as a whole had. And when we were up, we were passing the ball. And it worked.

Watching Robinson in at fullback on a play that sealed the game was one of the most satisfying moments in Husker football in quite a while.

Small thing, but I loved that moment late in the 1st quarter where Wisconsin doesn't get the snap off in time on the field goal, makes it on the whistle, then misses it on the next try. LOL. Just so satisfying.

:clap

I know this is a stretch. But watching Emmett Johnson juke and spin and cut out there reminded me of sophomore year Ameer.

I know he's not necessarily Ameer. But damn, that is what you want to see. Just that complete frenetic & bolting style of cutting and slashing upfield. Damn.

Then you have Barney out there just doing whatever it takes. Such a good feeling to watch out team hang 44 on a solid defense.

Somebody will complain that I'm cherry picking s***, but this is more of the stuff I thought we'd be doing this season. More of that "49ers" kind of stuff. This was a really satisfying play to see for some reason:

I'm not saying we didn't run some different plays or use the ones we had better.

But this was the biggest change from my point of view.  We got DR to get the ball out of his hands, take the yards that were there and keep the chains moving.  He's had receivers open, he just wouldn't throw to them.  He was today.

He was still 0/4 throwing the ball 20+ yards downfield.  But he was 28/34 on everything else, because he was taking the easy ones.

That and we finally figured out that EJ was the best option and should get a lot of touches.

I'm not sure when I've had such an enjoyable day of college football.

Huskers beat Wisconsin for the first time in forever.

Huskers bowl eligible for the first time in a long time.

Huskers look like they have a legitimate offense for the first time in .... what seems like a really long time

So glad to see the Huskers get the win today...especially for the players who have stuck with the program over the past 5 years.  Here are my thoughts:

1.  Dana, Dana, Dana-What more can be side about what he has done to get the offense clicking and get Raiola's confidence up.

2.  Emmett, Emmett, Emmett-He was the MVP on offense today. He helped make the team multi-dimensional and took a great deal of pressure off the pass game. He reminds me of Ameer Abdullah and it's been a while since we have had such a dynamic RB.

3.  Special teams continue to be special over the past several games.  Rhule deserves credit for getting this phase of the game performing consistently.

4.  Defense is still a major area of concern.  Had we scored our normal ppg coming into today we would have lost the game with the D giving up 25 points.  Heading into 2025 we need to make some changes on the D-side of the ball.
