I love it when Lent comes around.

For lent I am going to give up all the digits of pi after 10^-2. The people in my friends list who give up facebook for Lent aren't annoying because of their religion - they're just annoying people in general. They're the people who post song lyrics, vague statuses crying for comments, etc. I don't know if there's a correlation between religion and facebook statuses, but I think there is in my news feed.

That's why I love Lent.

Why do people give things up for Lent? What does it do?
Did a google search, found this. I have no idea why people do Lent. As a Lutheran, I never practiced it, even though I believe some people did.

The most popular reason why people give things up from what I've heard is that Jesus gave up his life for our sins, the least we could do is to give up something that we don't need for him during Lent.
