What is an encyclopedia?

My question to you, how would you explain that to a student in one/two sentences?

Close to what I said!  I said think of the internet but in book form.

That would probably just end up pissing the kid off even more.

I use an encyclopedia to chock my wheels.  It's a scooter, so you know I use a good thick one.
