What Is Defensive Success vs Oregon

Defensive success? Holding Oregon to fewer points than we score. I'll put it about 35. And keeping Freeman under 100 yds.....and not getting torched through the air repeatedly.

 
Efficient tackling and not allowing leaky yards. If we do that we will win. That said, if our defense holds them to one fewer point than our offense scores, I'll be happy for the win.

My dream scenario is that we shut down their run and physically beat the crap out of them.

 
Win first. That shows the most important defensive stat. We get them from scoring more points than we did.

As said above, hold Royce to less than 150 yards on the ground. Of course looking at there previous two games, a lot of dudes got touches.......and yards. Limit explosive plays. Win the TO battle. Maybe the most crucial defensive stat? Acknowledge we need the special teams to be special and the half million dollar man to realize that it makes up 1/3rd of the game plan..In a game that can be a shootout, field position means everything.

I'd plan to hit the RB every play. Ball or not. Much like UCLA did in 2013. Regradless of who gets the ball on their zone reads RB goes to the ground. Get great penetration up field and break up the timing of that O. I'd like to see us also play closer to the LOS with our DB's. Don't give their speedsters 8 yards to get going. As Marvin Sanders used to teach and preach, on the ground or out of bounds, that can't catch passes. I'd also be slower to get off the pile, get rest when you can, give D time to get lined up and slow me down.

Saturday, a Success is a win, plain and simple. Doesn't matter the yards, Nebraska needs to play smart Smashmouth football, with a mix of passing.

If Nebraska makes Oregon one dimensional, or makes the Offensive line give up. We are going to run through them.

 
Winning by 1 or more would be awesome, however deep down I wouldn't mind giving up some big plays if we can see the ducks leave our stadium feeling sore and tired - them feeling glad that they can relax on the plane and take a day off to recover. BigTen Style!!!

Yards aren't really that big here. As many have stated, limiting 20+ yard plays seems to be what causes Oregon problems. Make this new QB lead long drives with 90k screaming in his ears and we should have a good day.

In order to accomplish that, we have to tackle well in space. I think Kieron Williams will be huge in this one. He may come out with 15 or so tackles.

 
Holding Oregon under 35 points might be good enough for a win, under 30 is almost certainly a win, and under 20 points would be a great performance. Anything under 14 points would be epic.

 
Thought it was success when Miami came to Lincoln, so maybe something like that? I think Kaaya threw it a bunch and their quick RB had a bunch of combined yards. But it was the D's toughness, QB pressure and pickoffs that did a lot that night.

 
Meaning, there will be yards, some big plays, and points in the 30 range. But forcing timely turnovers will help a lot.

And the Ducks will probably go for several 4th down plays. That could be key to success too (stopping them).
