What kind of projects can you do around your house?

Absolutely agree, always hire them.

Have a best friend that ask me to help his family move from one house to another (a lot of furniture).  Offered me free pizza and beer.  I told him I couldn't and I can buy my own pizza and beer any weekend.  

Another friend called me up on a late Sunday afternoon.  Help him move from 3rd floor apt to a 2nd floor apartment in the same complex, about two streets away.  Furniture, washer, dryer, etc.  Stairway was the kind that was 5 steps, turn, 5 steps, turn...  like 100 steps it seemed.  I gave him $150 and said "dude, you are almost 40, you have good job, you get paid well, you need to pay for professional movers.  And they are usually younger and faster".  And he said okay.  

 
i am not sure that i remember how to do anything other than run a chainsaw anymore.   That's all i have done since the storm and i am finally ready to go back to my real work.  i feel like it's been the longest month of my life since that storm

I got lucky and basically had nothing in my yard.  But houses right by me had tree after tree down.

after i cleaned my yard, the neighbors yard(he is a vietnam vet...not sure how old), 2 brothers houses, my mom's house, then got hired to clean a few other places.

I saw a guy towing a tree mulching machine.  I think he was just driving around picking up quick jobs.  Probably made a fortune.

Well, my daughter moved into a new house with her husband.  It was older and still had wallpaper on from 1980 when it was built.  He works 18 hours a day so he wasn't able to help.  She had no clue and started taking the wallpaper off and damaged all the drywall.  I took off last week at 1:00pm on Sunday, drove 13 hours to San Antonio.  Got up and started working.  Worked till about 11:00 that night.  Had to totally remud almost all the walls, sand it down, paint, remud to finish...paint again.  Then drove all the way back on Wednesday.  I was friggen worn out.

Did I mention how much I hate doing drywall?  But, it was fun being able to help her.

ftryewall is so much fun....not.    but hopefully your daughter pays you back someday.    my daughter bought a house and i fixed a bunch of stuff for her.   last night she bought tickets for the john fogerty/george thorogood concert in lincoln last night and took me to the show as a thank you.    totally worth it when the kids think of things like that to say thank you

That would be nice. But, honestly, the tears in her eyes knowing I was coming to help and her loving the end result was enough.  One of those dad moments.

I’ll hang drywall no problem and do small patch jobs but I won’t do tape & texture on a large area. I’ve tried it 3 or 4 different times and I suck.  The guys who are good at that make me feel like I’m completely wasting my time.

Totally agree. I can hang it. Taping and mudding, no. 
 

I had to retake a few corners in this project. I suck at it. I even rewatched some YouTube videos this time and still it was a struggle. They make it look so easy. Id love for an expert to watch me and tell me what I’m doing wrong.
