What to do about recent topic tangent

In the Kenny Bell's Afro thread, before the "be excellent to each other" warning was posted, the topic began to deviate from the afro to Kenny Bell's tattoos (NUpolo8 did that, shockingly

).

The conversation went from the afro to paying college athletes. I split the off-topic stuff (Kenny Bell's tattoos & paying college athletes) to a Paying College Athletes Discussion thread, which happens to be on Page 2 of the football forum where it can die for all I care.

However, two posts at the end of the original afro thread caught my attention, and I moved them to the Offending Posts thread.

Personally, I think Kenny did this with the intention of riling up the fans. Not in a way to entertain himself (although I'm sure that was part of it), but more in order to make a mockery out of the local media. But really, who knows?

It was likely an "attention whore" move. So, yeah.

Takes one to know one, huh?
The posts in question are polo's and saunders'. saunders definitely deserves a warning for that, especially because he was just given a time out for calling polo a dipsh*t and telling him to STFU a month ago.

NUpolo8 has been the instigator of a LOT of the bitching on this board this offseason. We've talked about giving him a week's timeout before but nothing ever got done. While this isn't the worst thing, and while his original topic tangent started before the warning to stay on-topic was posted, he's known without question that he should be toning it down.

I don't know what's going on with him right now, but whatever it is, he's changed quite a bit since last season started. Even his former echo chambers True & Count'bility have been telling him to chill out in the past month or so.

Do we warn? Do we suspend?

Do we do nothing?

Regarding the NUpolo8 situation, this goes back to something I told Hedley Lamar a while back: If it's one person complaining about you, there's not much of a problem. If it's a few people, there might be a problem. If it's the whole board complaining about you, YOU are the problem.

I think your last paragraph is the issue. He hasn't been terrible lately that I've seen - basically since you posted the general warning to everyone. But it's the same stuff over and over. Not that he doesn't have valid points but most people don't want to be constantly beat over the head with everything that's wrong. Most always want to think that things are going to be better this year and there's reason for optimism. But it's a constant rainy parade with him.

The other issue is - and I have to catch myself on this as well - that he's done so much of it for so long that most of his posts FEEL like trolling even if he's not. It's like you can't talk about anything that might be promising without him talking it down. And several people have grown so tired of it that they are responding by nearly attacking him even if his post wasn't that bad.

While we're on the subject, there was this rant yesterday as well that I don't know if anything needs to be done about:

NU polo is insufferable.

If you think Moglia had ONE OUNCE of purpose to the success/failure of N football while he was here, well.....

I don't feel like getting banned.
I mean, you're talking about the guy who learned everything he needed to know about running a football team, replacing the guy he leaned it from.

The guy he learned it from, that you hate!

I gotta say man, I used to read this board and sometimes post, but you have, through your incessant negativity and actual lack of knowledge of what it takes to run a program (not just "have an opinion"), driven me away from coming here and casually getting news/venting/catching up on my Huskers.

You seriously ruin every thread. EVERY. SINGLE. THREAD.

I can't be here anymore and read your negativity. Later all.
I've been ignoring him for about 2 yrs.

But when entire threads are hijacked its impossible. He gets off course, not necessarily on the subject, but just with the constant negative, combative, argumentative, and tunneling approach.

A clear, concise, pointed difference of opinion is what initially drew me to this board. But his is a different animal. I actually pity him and the energy he expends, and by proxy sucks, from the rest of us.

It's not personal, it's just exhausting. so, I'm out.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. And if you look at who +1'd I am I's post, one is a guy who doesn't post all that often anymore. For every Ed Helms that is still here, +1ing posts like that, how many have left?

I like polo (Tom), I've done the 'have a beer' thing with him and he even sent me a boatload of rice (he's a rice farmer) as a gift. But we cannot let him, or anyone, steer the board too far to either direction.

There have to be some options on the table. Whether it's a post ban, a suspension or Mod Preview of his posts. We don't have to do any of those things today, but we need to be thinking about it.

I put NUpolo8 on Mod Approval for three days and gave him a warning for immediately taking the Joe Moglia thread off-topic to complain about the team's record, which (predictably) devolved into a Bo Pelini argument.

I removed all the offending posts from that thread and put them into a "tangent thread" where I'll dump all of these kinds of tangents from now on. You'll see it in the Husker Football forum. If you think it should go somewhere else, like Rumorville or the Shed, let me know.

Do we just keep moving everything to the Tangent Thread? Because this thread has turned into "this staff plays guys hurt because they can't recruit and mange the roster properly."

Maybe this will wake him up some with being on "mod-approval" for a few days. If not and he ends up leaving who cares at this point? I'm sure he's a great guy and I hope he figures it out, but if he's driving members away he needs to either figure it out, or take a hike.
