What to do with Recruiting commit threads?

Thanks. I'm on my tablet so I couldn't get to it. Looks good. If there's anything else I'll work on it when I get home.

Looks like you may have done some other cleaning in that thread that needed done as well.

With almost 15 pinned threads, it was hard to see the latest recruiting updates for non-commits, and also hard to see at a glance what we have in the class since the commits are sorted by "last posted in" date -- so for now, I've unpinned all Nebraska commits from the 2015 recruiting forum and replaced it with a pinned thread that lists & links to all of their threads individually (sorted by position group, last name, first name, with separate groupings for QB, skill positions, OL, DL, LB, and DB).

I figure after signing day we can go back and pin all the commits/walk-ons/etc.

The first reply to that thread is someone saying they like the old format much better, though, so maybe we should change it back. I don't know, I'm just really personally averse to stickied threads. Please change it back if you feel it would be better!

That's an interesting idea. I definitely see what you're saying about the newer recruits being a ways down the page. I started pinning them all because some of the guys would drift to the second page but your idea with the links is a good substitute.

Reaction seems a little mixed so far. One down side I see now is it is very hard to pick out the commits' threads. It's a little cumbersome to go into the thread and click the link. Trying to think of a way to better identify the commits' threads without pinning them. Perhaps capitalizing the entire title or adding some special characters to flag them?

Let's try it for awhile and see how it looks.

Yeah, reactions are definitely mixed. Oops. Probably should not have done it. You're right about the downside, I hadn't thought of that. Hrmmmm. That's kind of a big downside. I just wish it didn't have to push everyone else's down so much. 14 is kinda OK, but suppose we had 20 commits and it's November or December with a lot of recruiting left to do.

Maybe a subforum for the committed players? Too much?

I had thought about the sub-forum for commits as well. Not sure if that's better or worse.

And I agree that we're at a smaller class now. If we had 25 or so it would be quite a ways down. I'm curious what the "average" user looks at more. Kind of hard to tell because there are a lot more posts in the commits' threads but do some people only every look at the commits' threads and only a handful of the hard core nerds recruit-niks look through the others?

I think a subforum for commits is a good idea. Or maybe the commits in the main forum and all the random "targets" in the subforum?

Yeah, very sorry about the ill-conceived idea. Here's a new one, only for the non-mobile version of the site: list the current commits inline via javascript, and have a toggle button that can remove them from view. This would avoid the work of moving threads back and forth to a subforum, which might also make them fairly inaccessible.

Pinned commit threads toggled off:

The way this would have to work is all commits have to have consistent formatting, e.g what we have now: "{POS} {NAME} {[NEBRASKA COMMIT]}", and they all have to be pinned, and they all have to fit on page 1 of the forum listing.

Try it out by going to the 2015 Recruiting Forum and selecting "QB 2014" as your skin, let me know what you think

(We can apply something similar to past recruiting cycles, if they also have consistent thread naming)

Right click on the image and select to open in a new tab, and you will see it. The problem is that the image is not supported by IP.Board.

As for the skin, in the "full" version (not the mobile version), look for the black bar at the bottom of any page. Click "Change Theme" and then select "QB 2014".

Thanks.

I have "Test Current - QB", "QBL", "QB Live", "QB Sneak" and "HuskerBoard Mobile" as options when I try to Change Theme.

Oh, hmm...I see. The skin was enabled for ACP access & "SuperMod", but the mods are actually in a group called "Mod." I changed it now. It's a bare bones / WIP skin anyway, but it'll illustrate this in the 2015 & up recruiting forums.

(I'm not sure why the pictures don't display -- they're just JPGs and work for me)

Well, QB2014 is just me taking the default IPB 3.4 skin when we upgraded around September I think, stripping it of all its styles, and starting to put something together from the ground up. But, most of it's incomplete, and there's things that need changing. (Still haven't figured out a sensible way to deal with huge quote pyramids, for example).

If it ever gets used, that'll be up to how much you guys (and Chad & Eric) like it

[Off topic now, but I would like to move in that direction in a few areas, such as a narrower viewing pane for closer to optimal line length for readibility)
