Who should our next HC be?

I was talking to a long time Texas A&M fan & grad this morning at work.  We were saying something similar.    The flavor of the day is the spread - everyone runs it and THEREFORE everyone has recruited a defense to stop it.  He came out and said Nebraska needs to go back to the gritty smashmouth football they ONCE WERE.  That doesn't mean we just RTDB but that we modernize what Tom did.  Recruit to our strengths and not be like everyone else.  If we can't get a big name who can bring in recruits to compete with OSU, USC, etc, then I would be all in on Jeff Monken or Chadwell.  Both would provide an offense that would be hard to prepare for as we'd be the only one on the opposing team's schedule with that type of O.   Granted, it means recruiting 4 star and 5 star OL would be a must, receivers who can catch and block, and a RB who can take on the load.  Of course - it won't matter if the D doesn't improve.  But a more ball controlled O helps out the D in so many ways as you all know.

Honest Question: Is this not what Wisky and Minny are now? Heck even Iowa? Power running games and clock management?

Tenn did  and that is working out.     Frost had character and coaching limits we didn't see at the time.  

Gus has all kinds of HC experience and I think he would be a great get.  I mentioned before on him, I remember when he was a HS coach in NW Arkansas.  Look up his accomplishments on Wiki and you will see he is no light weight.

This take has multiple problems:

1) It only looks at the final score (OU won by 7 - it was 21-21 at Halftime). Army was held scoreless in the final half.
2) It only looks at the offensive side of the ball: In that game Army had a TOP of 44:41 to Oklahoma's 15:19. Oklahoma only had 3 Third Downs the entire game. A HC has to play/recruit/coach Defense also.

3) It only looks at Won/Loss records and ignores that Army's Strength of Schedule in 2018 was ranked #73 (at the end of the year). Is their 11-2 the same quality as that year's Georgia team (who went 11-3 against the 3rd most difficult Strength of Schedule???)

That poster also got it right that Army played Ohio State (2017) and Oklahoma (2018) in back-to-back seasons. "Almost knocked off" Ohio State???

Ohio St. won 38-7.

People have selective memories (to be charitable).

Regarding the Wing-T offense, the poster seems to have forgotton that:
a) It's not just the system - it's recruiting players to effectively run that system

b) Osborne mostly abandoned it and began recruiting differently when he realized that SPEED KILLS the Wing-T Option. TO went on to win back-to-back National Championships taking a more modern approach.

Time marches on, people. Innovation continues. Going back to leather helmets is not the answer.

Perhaps but I don't see their offense as nearly as innovative as Coastal Carolina's (Chadwell) or as consistently power run oriented as Army's (Monken).  I see their offenses as still more of pro-set.  But I'm not an offensive genius like some of the other guys on HB who know schemes inside and out.

I said that at the start and received plenty of  :lol:  -- either get a big-name coach who can recruit elite talent to Lincoln, or revert back to an option-based offense (preferably Chadwell) and recruit to our own unique strengths

Urban Meyer has a pattern of behaviors that are concerning. He’s unfit to be a leader of young men in my view. If Alberts were to hire him he’d be an enabler of the conduct that’s been demonstrated. 
 

There’s quite a bit of ignorance of the seriousness of Meyer’s behavior. I know people that want Meyer unaware of the significance of his actions. Others simply don’t object to it and no doubt a few are perpetrators themselves.  He’s got his share of flying monkeys just like they all do.
 

It’s not all right if you wouldn’t want it happening to a family member or loved one. It’s not just about winning, nothing else. There is more than one person that can turn things around for us and truly be a great coach for our team.

Well, I agree.  We can drink on that :cheers   I'm tired of being 2nd class (ok 3rd class) in trying to compete with the same Offense that everyone else has and going after the same recruits.  The only way we can win at that game is to hire the absolute top level coaching staff of developers and recruiters.  IF we can't get that top guy, then do as they do in business - differentiate.  Find the niche that will work for Nebraska and for 40 years it was a power run game that was also innovative. Recruit to that, develop to that, and execute to that scheme.  Again, I'm not saying going back to Tom's triple option but rather what we thought Frost was going to do - merge Oregon speed with Nebraska power -  we ended up with low gear speed without power.   

Again - our D still needs to stop people.  It has got to be a holistic approach.  It was great seeing the Special Teams contribute the other night - so long absent under Frost. 

This speaks actually to the greater need:  A successful P5 /G5 coach who has seen it all and understands the importance of all 3 phrases of the game and not just being a offensive or defensive specialist.
