I must have imagined him in the FCS championship game last year while we were getting curb stomped by Tennessee.
Have I been misremembering Riley's 7 loss season? Wait... is 7 less than 4?
Oh ok. Cool. Yeah let's keep Riley forever then.
Are you kidding? Orgeron a turd? I'd take him any day over Riley and twice on Saturdays. Give me a break. He's 6-2 playing SEC competition, Riley might have a 2-6 record if he were at LSU playing that level of competition.
He had 7 years to prove himself at the P5 level but you want two years after to be the real Pelini? Haha. I wish he did more for us.
Jesus. Pelini sucked. Get over it and stop kissing his butt.
We switched conferences just as he was getting recruits perfect for Big 12 play. He made adjustments too late to save his job, more due to his demeanor than his W/L record.
If you want to talk about "proving yourself" at the P5 level, well I guess that means we can bring up Riley's OSU record. Does he deserve even more years at Nebraska to "prove himself"? A 16 year career P5 .500 record?
Think before you speak.
Are we still paying him? Maybe that has something to do with it or he's psycho. Maybe both. And he still sucks. Which is why he is in his 3rd year coaching a FCS team and no FBS power 5 program will go anywhere near him.

Penn St. and Wisc have both made good coaching hires for their programs over the past years. It's that simple. We have not and now it's not a matter of continuing what an Osborne, Alvarez or Paterno(football performance only obviously) built. You have a short window to keep that ball rolling after a legend retires before you become just another program. Tennessee was in the wilderness for a long time as well. Florida made what looked like a few solid hires which have not worked out thus far. And they are both in prime recruit land. Jesus look at Texas. This sh#t isn't easy, and luck plays a much bigger role in landing "The Guy" then people want to admitMy guess is that Riley goes 7-5 or 8-4 this year, and 7-5 or 8-4 next year. At the end of next year, meaningful people will probably get on the train of Riley needing to be on the hot seat. He'll get another year with which he'll go 7-5 or 8-4 and that will be it.
So, my guess is that we are stuck with this joker for at least 2 years, maybe even 3 years.
the sad thing is that deep down inside, I feel like this program has been "poisoned" by a staggering level of ineptitude that has now spanned multiple athletic administrations. For whatever reason, the leaders of our athletic department just cannot right the ship. No one is expecting us to be NC contenders year in and year out, but we most certainly should be the class of the Big Ten West, and frankly I don't ever see that happening.
we need a difference making Head Coach, and I don't see anyone like that wanting to come here. I think the only way we get someone like that is by paying 4 or 5 million a year, cash (and lots of it) will be the catalyst to fix this thing.
Wisconsin is the team we SHOUlD be. Mark my words, Mike Riley will NEVER beat Wisconsin.
it is mind boggling to me that Penn State, a team on the death bed decimated by sanctions, Wisconsin, a team that had had umpteen coaches in recent years, are both able to have more success than we can muster. It is a sad pathetic thing.
Mich, VT, Fl & UT are all big name programs that are in recruiting hotbeds. Even Washington has a much better recruiting base than Neb.Wisky is what NU used to be. A power running team, physical in the trenches on both sides. Great LB's and DB's and most importantly, a definitive system that they use week in and week out and specifically recruit for.
I have no idea how many "systems" we have ran since Frank was fired. Cally and the West Coast, Bo (Wats/Beck) with the spread option/multiple/WTH was that and now Riley with his square peg round hole for 2 years and now some type of pro style where the jet sweep and screen are the staples (even though we might be the worst team int he FBS attempting them). Throw in multiple years with kids recruited for one system and then having to play in another, multiple position coaches, DC's/OC's etc.....and its a recipe for what we have. If there was a definitive recipe on how to make a soup sandwich it would say see NU since 2004......We have just had poor decisions from the top to the bottom (I didn't want Frank fired, when he let Bohl and Co go he should've been given another year or two-off field incidents aside) since he was fired.
For whatever reason NU has never opened the checkbook to get "that" guy. Maybe when we get Bo paid off we will. NU needs to take a good hard look at where they are and where they want to be. If they are content to have sub par seasons, then by all means continue the present course with a .500 coach. He moves on and hire another "safe" bet who will keep us in the hunt for 7th best in the B1G......
I look at teams that hired the "it" guys and most seem to be doing better than NU. Michigan, Washington, VT, UF etc...I'm betting Herman turns UT around.
The blue print for success is out there. We just choose not to follow it. I read an article a few years ago and it talked about teams that fell from grace and returned to prominence all had one thing in common except NU. They all went back to what made them great to begin with.....Let that sink in.
Can't we just get along?I didn't bring him up, the Riley apologists did because it's their only response to criticism. You can't defend his actual record.
Riley sucks.
LOl so Pelini is worth excuses but not Riley? GMAFB. Take the loss on this one.
I'm willing to get behind Frost or someone else but let's be real before we do. In his 1st 3 seasons Bo inherited 12 NFL draft picks including Suh, Amukamuara, and Carriker. Riley has inherited 5 draft picks none before the 3rd. Frost would be crying too I'm afraid.
