Who's Leaving? 2024/25 version

So why is EJ bolting? He was getting major attention. Something systemic in the culture of this team is going on that is causing people to bolt. Winning is a culture and losing is a culture. I guess we know what we have.

Nah if he don't love Nebraska for what Nebraska provides for him as a football player goodbye.  Have a great college career somewhere else.  I think what might sting a little bit is A) He stays in the Big 10 or B) He goes to more successful program and becomes the starter for them.  A I wouldn't care about but B I would question if he performed well enough during fall camp to be the featured back and wasn't given the opportunity to be.

Rioala would not be here if he wasn't making some serious money.  Give EJ some, too.

 
Hope they can bring somebody in with break away speed, something that has been missing in the RB room for sometime.  EJ is shifty but never seemed to be able to create explosive plays.

I don’t think we have the talent in the room to make this up. Would love to be wrong but I think that person would have played the last 3 games and still not burn a redshirt. Also don’t know if we can replace this talent in the portal.

Yeah overall the team has been missing players that can create explosive plays. EJs longest run of the year vs p4 opponents was 19 yards. I like EJ and he would be good to have on a roster but at some point it becomes a numbers game with NIL and roster spots if he wants feature back money and playing time.

We are just going to have to find out and that's why it is so important that whoever you decide to bring in are hits and not duds.  I think there are plenty of offensive guys(running backs, wr's,qb's) in the portal that Nebraska will/can bring in.  It's up to the coaches to put those kids in the best position to succeed and for the kids to succeed when giving the opportunity.

Does anybody feel like he was going to be the clear cut starter next year here in the way he performed to close out the season?? I do just maybe he didn't believe he was going to be.

I think there will be, or maybe just make them become available through back channels.   I was hoping EJ would stay as it looked like he had decent vision and potential.  However, he’s gone now so the work to replace begins.  Hope he finds what he is looking for and I hope NU does a better job of identifying who should be the RB starter next year as EJ was clearly a better every down back than Dowdell.
