Who's Leaving?

Good luck Johnny, sorry you got a raw deal here. Truly hope you make a name for yourself and make us regret letting you go.
What are you talking about man? Raw deal?
Well, as pointed out numerous times by numerous people, Bo and his staff couldn't properly develop QB's. Now that Riley is here it's too little too late.

I'm still a fan of Stanton's, think he could have been something here.
I mean, he'd still have 3 full years. I don't think time was an issue. The 4-5 QBs ahead of him was the issue.
I think the Tommy Armstrong issue is the main reason. He seems to be starter by default and I get that completely. Darlington could easily place himself as the backup or even successor should TA go down. Just seems like deciding between AJ and Fyfe and Stanton is a tossup for the staff, or maybe not and that's that. I think Stanton's time frame for learning an offense is what held him back. Especially if we were still trying to teach TA to be Martinez.

I had really hoped Riley's recruitment of Stanton would lead to something but alas it was not meant to be.

By all accounts, Armstrong, Bush, and Darlington were the three guys the staff was looking for out of this group.

Stanton was somewhere behind Fyfe, and maybe even Broekemeier.

For all of you who thought Stanton was the guy, was in the mix, was one of the top guys, could start

You were wrong

As he showed in Spring practice and the Spring game

I can understand Stanton... but I'm really intrigued by Irons.... i never really heard much from him (maybe for a reason) but from i did hear he was talented and had some ability... Was he homesick? Bummed all his friends are gone?? Hotter chicks back home?? who knows... Im sure DPE could really have taught him something

There was just something about Bush I didn't like that I saw, something familiar.

Rumor is that he was told that he wouldn't be starting out on the 105-man roster
How does that work as a scholarship player? I know being on scholarship doesn't guarantee playing time, but, is it pretty rare for someone in a position like him to not make the 105 for reasons other than injury/off-the-field?

Transfer rumors don't shock me given the amount of bodies we have at QB, but, a lot of people were pretty high on this kid.
I would say it's pretty rare, barring injury. That's 20 players not on scholarship before you have to leave a scholarship player off the list. I know we have a lot of QBs but that seems pretty odd to me. I'm not sure 20 non-scholarship players even see the field in a given year.
So apparently that's the story. That seems really odd to me but I've said for quite awhile I thought he would transfer so it doesn't really matter.

Fair enough. That doesn't mean Johnny Stanton was anywhere in the mix, though. He wasn't. Not because of a raw deal he got, but because Armstrong, Bush, and Darlington are substantially better as D1 quarterbacks.
Admittedly, that's not necessarily saying much. Heh.

Irons is what baffles me. He has been injured. I'm curious what his reason is. It would've been nice to keep that NOLA pipeline going, but hopefully having Ferguson makes that easy still.

The fact that Irons leaving so closely after Tolbert was officially dismissed from the team gives me all the information I need as to why he is leaving.
