Eight have tried. Eight have failed. Now, it's Ohio State's turn. The Buckeyes are the ninth college football team to win the national title and start the following season No. 1 in the preseason rankings since USA TODAY Sports started administering the Amway Coaches Poll in 1991. None have been able to repeat as champions.

But even though history is against Urban Meyer's team, it would be a surprise if its season didn't end in the College Football Playoff.

Having watched OSU for the last 25 years it seems when they are loaded they lose AT HOME to a team they should have beaten handily. One of the most talented teams in my memory was the 1998 team that lost to a Saban MSU team. 2007 Illinois and a few times to Michigan in the mid 90s but those Michigan teams were decent. I am afraid of the MSU game this year at the shoe.

So, they would have a better chance at repeating if they weren't ranked #1 in the pre-season?
