Why I dislike Mike Riley

Jumped straight from position coach to head coach. Like I was saying in the Frost thread, I'd prefer someone with recent experience as a coordinator at a top-tier program.

But yeah, there were times when it seemed like Solich had just plain given up with his playcalling.

He did give up playcalling.  In 03', Cotton called the offensive plays.

I bet you're one of them.
BRB is a moderate conservative, so if he is one of MR's assistants, I'd put my money on .... Parrella?

Is that you, John?

Did Steve Spurrier's DC get fired after we beat up his team in '95? They knew what was coming all game long and couldn't do anything to stop it.

Yeah, that reminds me of the other misperception: Tom Osborne teams didn't run any "play" over and over and over. Osborne's power option playbook was surprisingly complicated, required precision execution and plenty of deception.

Once the other team is outmuscled, humiliated and exhausted, there's nothing the DC can do. True enough.

A lot of this goes to the strength of the offensive line, which makes all kinds of play-calling easier.

I dislike Mike Riley too. But I dislike him because he lied about the way he was going to coach at Nebraska and because he used Nebraska to provide jobs for a bunch of washed up coaches who couldn't even hack it at OSU.
