Will Bolt contract extended through 2026

His salary is lower than I expected, but it’s still a 33% raise, and puts him at 2nd in the conference. Have to remember that Bolt has only been a head coach for 2 seasons.

Of course, if Bolt keeps up the success, other programs will come after him, and NU will have to pony up the cash to keep him. 

 
NU has the best facilities in the BIG. NU has by FAR the best fan support in the BIG. That means NU will be able to compensate their players via NIL MUCH better than anyone else in the BIG. We are the southernmost program in the BIG. NO reason why NU shouldnt dominate baseball recruiting in the 500 mile radius and no reason why NU shouldnt dominate baseball in the BIG.

I'll be interested to see how NIL translates to baseball simply because the best players can get drafted and go straight to the pros.  It may open up a competitive advantage due to the restrictions in scholarship numbers (granted some schools have been able to get around that--Vanderbilt and Mississippi State come to mind).

Vanderbilt has been a lightning rod for how to successfully get around the 11.7 scholarships and still recruit top prospects. Coach Tim Corbin, former head coach at Presbyterian and assistant at Clemson, has turned the Commodores into an elite program with the approach.

In 2008, Vanderbilt created “Opportunity Vanderbilt,” which promised that any student who was admitted to the school would not be prevented from attending due to cost of tuition. The school looked at each student’s family income, how much it could reasonably provide for their child to attend Vanderbilt, and subtracted that from the regular cost (Vanderbilt’s tuition for the 2018-19 school year was over $70,000).

In essence, the cost of attendance was what the student and their family could afford. Some complained that it helped Vanderbilt get players through that program while allowing the school to use its 11.7 scholarships for other players.

It wasn’t that simple, as if a player chose Vanderbilt because of the school’s financial aid, he couldn’t partake in athletic aid. Yet Vandy has won two College World Series titles in the past six years and Corbin called it an advantage in a recent interview with The Athletic.

“We have more of an inroad to a kid that is (in a) lower economic (situation) who wants to be here, can be here because of his economic situation,” Corbin said. “Does it hurt us? Yeah, because we don’t get every kid we want. But you also understand, it is an advantage for us, there is no doubt.”

Vanderbilt is a private school and has that advantage over every other school in the SEC. And now it can mix and match school and athletic financial aid, much like other private schools can (Stanford, Tulane, Miami, etc.)

For Mississippi State, I need to remember where I saw it but essentially, Mississippi State has a program where an out-of-state student can file for a waiver which grants them in-state tuition which is obviously quite a bit cheaper.  In addition, they have a program where they can award something like $25k to each student.  It's a very similar program to what Vandy does.

Whhhhhhooooooooooaaaaaaaa...slow your roll there, partner. Put down the Diabeetus-infused Kool-Aid and try some water for a sec.  

Please don't underestimate B1G baseball like the rest of the ESPN-led, SEC-centric media does. Last time I checked, Indiana and Michigan were the last ones to make waves in the College World Series from the B1G, not Nebraska. 

Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, Northwestern*, Rutgers, and Maryland have all invested heavily in their baseball programs. All of these teams have been at or near the top of the B1G in recent years, and Maryland has had baseball success in the past.

We're averaging four teams a season to the NCAA Baseball Tourney, and with these programs on the rise, I think we'll start pushing that average up to five teams. It's not as good as the other Group of Five conferences, but it's improving (in spite of support from the B1G Conference, it seems). 

To just assume Nebraska will come in, whip their bat out on the table, and win because of location or a pretty stadium with good fan support is a fallacy. As we go forward, it's going to be a struggle, but the good kind of struggle that comes with progress among the group as a whole. 

If anything, you could credit Nebraska with lighting a fire under schools to invest in baseball and improve fan/school support. Hopefully this translates into improved conference support, especially when it comes to B1G baseball on BTN. But as long as finish at or near the top of this conference consistently, we should be in a good position to do damage in the post-season. But to expect wholesale domination...nah...

(*Look--their old baseball field was worse than many high school fields, so investing in a vacant lot next to a blind ex-player and a large ball-stealing dog would have been an improvement) 

 
The net is- local baseball talent is pretty good compared to football talent. Only a handful of schools recruit Nebraska, and Bolt has been able to secure all the local kids he wanted. There IS no college baseball in Colorado or Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota, Kansas and Iowa a pretty wide open as well. 

Indiana caught fire because of a coach who is NOW at Mississippi State. Maryland does have some recruiting advantages, BUT NU can DOMINATE the Midwest for talent and there is talent to be had without a ton of competition. 

With NIL-  the fan support and facilities- theres no reason why NU cant dominate the area and the league.
