Silent Shawn's idea of leadership was to have you read about it in a book.
I got into it on Twitter with the author of that Energy Bus book that Shawn loved so much.  I said "You are the guy that almost ruined Husker football" and we did some good natured ribbing.

His promotion of the "best coach on campus" still makes me laugh.

Oh, that is a good one.

'Check out our best coach on campus and just casually ignore the multi-national title winning volleyball coach because I'm an idiot.' - Shawn Eichorst

I bet he sold quite a few books thanks to him!

The absolute best part of that is that Cook went out and coached his team to a national title, and Diaco got overwhelmed by the Strain.

For me it was Minnesota this season. Their offense was atrocious but we clearly didn't get that memo. That was a painful game to watch, as was 63-3.
I voted for the NIU loss, but Minn last season is the correct answer.

And with the benefit of hindsight, this is the truly correct answer:

Our worst loss came on December 4, 2014.

Or possibly October 4, 2012

The energy bus/vampire thing that SE preached is something I have witnessed.  My second job as a teacher, my Principle/Superintendent was an energy vampire.  He was an a$$ and his method of keeping things in his control was to keep everyone on pins and needles all the time.  He would literally scream at people about insignificant things.  Everyone walked around looking over their shoulder.  Luckily he took a new job after my first year there.  Ironically he played football at Nebraska under TO.

SE big problem IMO was that he was out of his depth.  He was a freaking pencil pushing lawyer.  I am sure Barry Alverez loved him as an Assistant AD because he was good at all the stupid administrative stuff that needs to get done that he didn't like doing.  It doesn't make you a leader though, it makes you a good accountant.  To be a good AD you have to be a people person first and foremost.  You have to be able schmooze people.  Deveney , Bill B, and Moos all have that.  TO doesn't that is why I don't think he was as good, but TO had the other element of a good AD.  He knew athletics and knew what was necessary to have winning programs.  BD, BB and Moos all know/knew sports and understood that.  SE is an accountant.

Back to the OP, it is so hard to say what the worst loss is, so many have so much merit for the title.  I am going with Minnesota last year, for the simple reason I shut the game off about halfway through the 3rd q.  The team quit and and got stomped by a team that was terrible.

I had the same type of principal for 12 years...THE WORST!

I totally agree about how you describe the AD position.

No way I would have done 12 years of  that.

Again as far as being an AD goes some people just aren't made for the job SE wasn't.  I personally think I would be a terrible AD I hate schmoozing people.

Very painful to watch for sure ! ( and I watched the whole game ugh). I still say NIU was worse for me though because at that point in the season I still had hope . By the Minnesota game the season was already down the drain,  and nothing that happened surprised, or bothered me, any more . Just wanted it over, and Riley gone .

Last week, we looked at the best wins (a misnomer if I ever saw one) of the Mike Riley era. Now, let's take a look at the games that could be considered the "worst losses". I've gone through each season's schedule and pulled 5 games that could be considered the worst losses (and no, you can't vote for "All of the Above"). We can debate for a week, put it to a vote and decide. If there is a game that isn't listed, vote for "other", and explain your choice.

Game 1: 2015 BYU: http://www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=400763495

- In all honesty, we probably should have known what we were in for after the very first game of the Riley era. Some awful coaching decisions coupled with lackluster effort by a lot of players wishing their old coach was still on the sidelines. Armstrong throws for 300, but we all know how this one ended.

Game 2: 2015 Illinois: http://www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=400763528

- Absolutely atrocious late-game decisions by OC Danny Langsdorf and Tommy Armstrong. Armstrong was particularly bad; 10-31 for 105 yards, but if he runs the ball on the infamous play, Nebraska still probably wins.

Game 3: 2015 Purdue: http://www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=400763555

- This would be the only conference game that Purdue would win in 2015. This was also Ryker Fyfe's bowl game: he threw for 400 yards and 4 TDs, but 4 INTs and the defense couldn't keep themselves off the field and Purdue out of the end zone.

Game 4: 2017 Northern Illinois: http://www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=400935354

- I think this was the game when we realized that Tanner Lee's interception issues weren't just because of the competition. At this point, you could almost call out when he was going to throw an INT, as the final score was Nebraska 14, NIU's defense 14, NIU's offense 7.

Game 5: 2017 Iowa: http://www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=400935417

- The story of one quarter: with the game tied at halftime, Iowa went off for 28 in the 3rd quarter, and it was over. Thankfully, the whole thing was over.

I thought the win poll had the most plausible covered, but I have to go with one not on the poll this time ( that says a lot about the Riley era, doesn't it.)

2015 Miami. Big comeback wasted with a bad INT to start overtime followed by a worse personal foul on the return. Miami wins on a chip shot field goal.

IMO, it's Purdue, and it's not close. That was a horrible football team, who only beat one FBS team (Nebraska). Hazell's teams were so bad, that the 2017 team under Brohm beat more FBS (and B1G) teams in one season, than Hazell's teams did in FOUR.

When you look at the quality of the team, it's the worst opponent Nebraska has lost to since Hawaii in the 1950's.
