Solich wasn't fired until December of 2003....Woodhead would've already finished his SR season of football. Solich nor Bill gave him any sort of looks. In fact, I would blame Frank more since Bill wouldn't have much of a clue that late in the game to get him.
This may be the case as far as Ross already being there but the point remains the same. Frank wanted Ross and refused Danny. Ross probably ran a 4.7 forty. That much I do recall pretty accurately as I personally called in to the athletic department to urge them to reconsider Woodhead. I recall Jim Rose on the radio show defending the decision not to recruit Woodhead as he was just too slow, etc. Instead he sets records and plays NFL ball for a number of years, etc. Of course Frank wasn't interested in Reggie Bush either (well he offered him a safety spot if he wanted to try defense. Bush may not have been an ideal I back but gee whiz? Give him a shot after he travels to Lincoln twice on his dime to try to get a look.Solich wasn't fired until December of 2003....Woodhead would've already finished his SR season of football. Are you talking about the same Reggie bush who played for USC? He was a .99 5 star and your saying Frank turned him down? This may be the case as far as Ross already being there but the point remains the same. Frank wanted Ross and refused Danny. Yes. Exactly. He happened to be staying in the same motel as I was on one of his unofficial visits. The desk manager checked him in right ahead of me. We later talked about the visit. Are you talking about the same Reggie bush who played for USC? He was a .99 5 star and your saying Frank turned him down?
Woodhead attended one of UNL's camp so Coaches could see him first hand and tested very poorly. The problem was he had a problem with his back at the time. What are the coaches to think when you have a small&light player who runs a 4.75? (I don't remember the exact time as it was a long time ago.).
Amazing but I think I read on a recent search of Woodhead he ran a 4.35 forty at some point in his pro career. Glad Frank and Callahan considered him but no matter how you look at him - he should have been a Husker.
I am not being critical of Algarin but he doesn’t look anything like Woodhead. Two different animals - Danny was much bigger and built like a I back. algarin is a wiry 150 LBs punt returner or wingback maybe. Not sure he’s strong enough to get open as a WR vs bump and run coverages. But ?Woodhead is fast and supremely quick. He won the GMAC and has the Chadron record for the indoor 55m at 6.47 in 2006 which works out to around a 7.00 60m. But he was a late bloomer, running a 11.25 in the state meet in the 100m his junior year. He didn't run his senior year and just dominated on the soccer field instead. From what I gathered, Solich wasn't a fan and Callahan was intrigued but had him behind Brandon Jackson and the Lemming connection to the Panico family was too big to overcome.
For comparison, Algarin's track times are a little bit faster than Woodhead's and his jumps are at the top of the high school ranks.
Loved watching CSC in the O'Boyle era especially with Woodhead.Growing up in Chadron while Woodhead played, I'm very happy the way things turned out :thumbs so fun watching that guy play. Chadron St. put together some good teams in that time
I notice there's another Algarin on the women's track roster from the same school in MN, guessing that's his older sister?
