But re: the rest of the bold: I think that's the most frustrating part about BP's tenure here so far, he hasn't done anything on the field to earn a longer stay but he hasn't done on the field to earn a trip out of Lincoln either. A 12-2 season or even a 6-6 season would provide a clearer picture.
I agree with this 100%. After the UCLA game/tapegate I really thought the wheels were going to come off. I was done with this staff, and ready for a change.
But, as I look back at the year (rewatching games) and reflecting on everything that happened, I think it was a "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" situation. It is my belief, that 2013 was a rock bottom situation, and we're going to see an upward trend this year.
I don't think there's any way we've seen what rock bottom could be.
Although it's entirely possible we haven't seen the ceiling either.
I think this is pretty clear. And digging deeper, maybe it's the reason we seem to be in the rut we're currently in?
Think about this. Going back to the hiring of Devaney, the worst seasons we've experienced were in 2002 at 7-7, which was followed by a 10-3. Then in 2004 at 5-6, followed by 8-4 and 9-5. And then 2007 at 5-7 followed by 8-4, 10-4, x-4, x-4 and so on and so on. We've never experienced that near full decade of complete irrelevance and total dissarray to the tune of multiple and consecutive 3 and 4 loss seasons. Other programs like Oklahoma and Miami, USC have. Hence they had that reason to complete flip it upside down and go in a whole other direction. Granted we've fired and changed coaches, but has Nebraska actually done, or had reason to, completely change the way everything is done inside and out.
Well, I guess we say Callahan did and it didnt go so well. But I guess that leads to my thought that maybe we're still trying to hard to do things the "old way" so to speak. It still has not been "that bad" for consecutive seasons around here, which maybe has allowed some complacency to set in in places.
Thoughts? This is some that came to mind reading that one little comment.
