Mike Riley's Staff

Banker looks like he might be Riley's "Cosgrove"... he's comfortable enough with his efforts to keep him along all these years. Looking back at points given up by OSU, I not so comfortable. And why would Ed O. come work under someone he thought he was better than? Ed as DC might keep Kaz around and salvage some of this recruiting class who seem to really dig what he's selling.

Let Frost go... As others have said, why would Riley want to deal with having someone around who will be more than eager to take advantage of any stumbles and would have the connections inside the program to self-promote or back-stab him? Would love to see RB stay.. If DONU has any soul left at all it's riding around in Ron Brown. Fisher would be a good keep if for no other reason than again, to salvage bits of the recruiting class.

I guess it's the fear of losing out on a year of recruiting again that scares me most.

I would think keeping at least a couple guys would go a long ways towards easing the currently players minds.

Smoother transition is good for everyone. Especially Warren who is as tied to Pelini (in terms of how long he's been here).

How valuable is a smooth transition? At what cost, I mean? We tired that with Watson and it could be argued it set us back overall.
Much different situations. I'm sure the players liked Cally to some extent but basically everyone knew he was gone. I really don't think the players expected this one.

Also, keeping position coaches is much different than keeping coordinators.

Based on the issues of the past 15 years or so, and certainly true under Pelini.......the OL coach will be a critical one for Riley.

Coach O would be a fantastic pickup...seems his teams thought very highly of him and by all accounts is a world class recruiter...something we could certainly use

I don't think Frost is unrealistic at all. His dream job is HC of Nebraska. Being the OC/AHC now would put him in perfect position to make that happen in 5-8 years. Plus we could easily offer 750,000 to him which would be a huge pay raise.

How do you not hire Orgeron if he's interested?
It's not quite that easy. Yes, Ed O may be interested, but do we know if Riley has any type of relationship with him? Head coaches typically like to hire coaches they are familiar with and have relationships with. Hiring complete strangers is not something they usually do.

Now, maybe Riley got to know Ed O while Ed O was at USC, but who really knows at this point. I just don't want people to be pissed if Ed O isn't hired.

Kaz and Orgeron both coach DLine so that would be interesting.

Considering Orgeron doesn't have a job currently and still wants to coach, I would think he would be interested in several jobs that might be open.

I always interview candidates and find the best possible fit. Regardless of if I know them or not. If Riley hires all of his buddies that isn't acceptable

If Orgeron came here you know he would bolt as soon as that USC position came open. He needs a stepping stone right now and this is probably a good route for him.

you know he would not be here long term.
