AA had a great game but I don't think you can say we would have lost that game without him. They needed a last-second garbage TD to make it look closer than it was. TA had a very good game. You don't run for 343 yards without the OLine doing well. And the defense forced three turnovers (should have been four). That's a pretty complete team effort.

He accounted for over half the offense and 18 points in a 10 point game. We can absolutely say we lose it without him.
I wouldn't deny Santos and Gregory's impact, but they're also gone.

Double bingo! It's not fair to have it both ways. You can't say how great this new coaching staff is but then freely admit that they might struggle to get seven or eight wins while at the same time saying any staff can get nine wins every year.

I am all for giving the new staff plenty of time, we gave Bo plenty of time and in reality he won at least nine games every year. There's no reason Riley can't do the same thing.

Yep. Everything is dramatically better. But we're probably a 7-5 team.

I think Phil Steel says 7-1 in conference. I think the turn over of guys like Bell and AA on offense, with new staff (in a new conference) and a new system with unproven RB's has some concerned (DL depth, LB depth etc). I look at our schedule and see BYU and UM as big tests. Win against BYU and then against UM on the road and we are going into conference play pretty confident. Steele has UM as the most improved team for 2015.... Go in 2-2 and I think the guys start getting worried......

One of Steele's power rankings says 7-1, another says 3-5. He's got us 2nd in the division behind Wisconsin and ahead of Minnesota.
If the new staff is worth 1-2 wins, then we should be a 10 or 11 win team.

It doesn't work that way. It's highly possible they wouldn't have scored that last touchdown if we hadn't been up by as much as we were.

I agree. Cross was FAR FAR FAR inferior to Abdullah, and Newby fumbles once every 6 carries so....without Abdullah, and the inefficiency of TA's passing ability. I would say that Miami would have won that game.

For the record, I've never once said 7 was my expectation.

I think 9 is possible. I really don't know though. I'd like to see how the team looks for a few games before I go throwing these expectations of how they 'should' do.

I think BYU and Miami make our non-conference schedule a bit tougher, but both are defintely winnable games.

You're right, there's no reason Riley can't do the same thing and that's really not what I'm saying. I'm saying if he doesn't do it in his first year, I'm not gonna get all too worried about it.

Now if he wins 11 in his first year, I'm gonna get damn excited. It might not mean the next year will be the same, it might mean nothing. I'll be excited if we win 11 games because I'm a Husker fan and that's what I do. I like to see the Huskers win. If we win 11 that puts us in a lot of conversations at the end of the year. That's the fun part of college football is when you get to start being in those late season discussions.

I'll probably be tooting the horn pretty loudly if we do that well. If not, I'll give it a little more time and see how it goes.

I'm excited for this season. I think we've got a good staff and a good team. Can't wait to see it come together. Might not be the first season when it does, but I think it will eventully.

I don't think Bo was the worst coach ever, but I grew pretty weary of how he handled himself and certain aspects of the football progrum the last few years.

I also think Riley is a pretty good football coach, and have enjoyed and appreciated the new approach to things so far.

It would be nice to be able to enjoy it without the "then you need to start predicting 11 wins in year 1" derp.

I think we probably would have lost without him. But you said "We can absolutely say we lose it without him." Technically, we can say whatever we want, but there's not any surety just because he scored 18 and we won by 10. That's a bad argument.
