Schtick I'm Tired of Hearing...Already

I know frustrations are at an all-time high, but I'm getting sick of the idea that posters who are advocating patience with Mike Riley are somehow content with being mediocre or are okay with being 2-4 so long as it's not meany head Bo as our head coach.

Honestly, that's such a BS statement, seems to be made only in an attempt to get an arise out of people, and unsurprisingly it's being used by our usual trolling posters (i.e., 74Hunter). It is possible to advocate patience with Riley and be upset that we're 2-4.

Can we make a statement on this or something?

I mean.... stuff like that is as old as message boards. Actually a lot older than that but with a bigger audience now.

If you thought winning 9 games and making conference championship games was a decent accomplishment, you're lowering your standards.

If you complain about the new coaches, you are just mad that the previous coaches were fired.

If you complained about passing it last week and running it this week, you're just wanting to complain no matter what.

I think the standard needs to be are they breaking board rules. Unless there is some rule being broken, people are going to express their thoughts, no matter how absurd others may find them.

You're free to make that statement if you want. But as annoying as stuff like that is, that's people's opinion.

INaFID, I'm tired of that shtick, too. An "official" statement from us on it, though? Fans are going to have incredibly maddening takes on everything. Take playcalling, for example. If only we could get a penny for every "they went away from what was working".

I'd encourage statements of alternating opinion, but we won't be able to stop people from having the most unbelievable of opinions. Even say we do suspend some of these users. More users will sign up who will be saying the same sort of thing, because these are the kinds of things angry fans say, and fans are nothing if not easily riled.

That said, expressing opinions =/= flamebaiting, getting into it with other members, derailing threads, etc -- which are not okay. This might be a good opportunity for some case studies, and we can try to get on the same page as to what's instigating and what's not.

Good work on you guys for all the cleanup work done tonight, by the way. Thanks for being on top of things.

Trolling? I dunno...the way it's discussed just doesn't do anything to really advance a discussion and is just pointless. Here are just a few examples, and I dunno--it could just be that I'm one of those who is advocating for patience.

I'm not going to read through multiple paragraphs of a post. We hired a career .500 coach. This is the result. Lets call a spade a spade. Michigan and Florida hired proven coaches who have won and did big things. Harbaugh turned Stanford around, took the 49ers to a SB. McElwain completely turned around CSU. Quick, give me a time Riley and his buddies did something great that stands out on his resume.
Beat #1 USC.
Wow was that when Oregon State won the Pac-10? And that happened nearly a decade ago before he became a washout. They won a few division titles and beat Oregon a lot too.
Hey you asked me to do something that stands out on his resume. You can't move the goalposts because it's convenient.
It doesn't stand out to me because he's a .500 career coach and that's a fact. So what... we upset top ranked Sparty but finish 3-9 and that's a good year for you?
Actually., for many of our "fans" they were cool with that as long as meany face wasn't our coach.

You must be so proud that the Huskers are now a laughing stock.

So embarrassing.

But hey, he doesn't make funny faces.

Maybe Tony Dungy will come out of retirement and save Nebraska. He does have great respect for our program even Jon Gruden has great respect for Nebraska. Maybe we lure him away from ESPN. Money talks and Nebraska's great tradition still lives on with many people. Our so called fans are content with mediocrity it is heartbreaking.

I don't see anything hugely rule breaking about those posts (it's not that I like them, either: it's that I prefer totally indisputable decisions), but that entire thread seems to be just asking for a dumpster fire.

My thought is: you can like Riley and talk all day about it, or you can hate him or his work and talk all day about it, but keep it decent with each other. If you're looking for a slug-it-out thread with people who disagree, either do that in the Woodshed or not at all. Turning otherwise civil threads into that kind of garbage, or starting threads just for that purpose outside of the shed, is trash on the board and should be cleaned up as such.

The fans who really want to fight can find a different playground for that. So re: the thread, maybe lockworthy or perhaps as an alternative, move to the 'shed and let it continue there? Would that go over OK? The thread does have some good discussion potential too, to use your last post as an example.

It's just another side of the same coin. People who said have patience with Bo were getting accused of settling for mediocrity, and now others are doing it with Mike.

Our entire AD is messed up right now.

I dunno, I wasn't a member here in Pelini's first season, but were people calling for him to be fired after we started 3-3? (which we did, by the way)

I started a thread that people will hopefully read. It may be stupid, but everyone single one of us is struggling with the emotions we're feeling. Embarassed, anger, disappointment, etc..........we all deal with that in different ways. Hopefully that thread will cause people to start talking more rationally and understanding that everyone has an opinion, doesn't mean it's right, doesn't mean they like what they're seeing, whatever. I don't expect it to work, but this place is going to be unbearable at some point.

I vaguely remember a few, but we also lost in OT against #7 TT, and played a much, much tougher schedule, while coming off of a 5-7 season. If Bo had gone 6-6 or worse last year, you wouldn't be seeing near the amount of angst that we are as of now.

I'm just tired of losing. This one I think was the most soul crushing. We had them beat, and just couldn't close the deal at the very end...
