I agree. But lets not act like Kelly was OC for Belotti for a long time. He was OC for 2 years at Oregon before becoming HC.Scott Frost coming here to replace Riley is not even close to the same thing as a Chip Kelly being groomed to take Belotti's reigns.
Yeah, being handed a team like that doesn't happen very often. We could have coached that team to a conference championship at least. Also Coker at Miami was basically given a NFL team in college football. Even Bo Pelini could've won a MNC with that team.
Valid point, sometimes a guy just clicks with a system and fills the gap better than he righfully should. The same can not be said for Frost and Riley.I agree. What I do know is that if Scoot Frost hadn't played for Tom Osborne, you would be more likely to see him as a viable candidate. sadThere is no guarantee that a first timer or a couple decades of experience will succeed or fail. No, I'm pointing out the irrationality of your idea that hiring someone with experience is inherently better than hiring a first timer. So, you are insinuating that since Frank and Bo were both 1st time head coaches and won around 9 games a year, that is proof huring Frost would be our best option?
What I do know though is that if Scott Forst hadn't played for Nebraska, his name would scarcely come up as a candidate to coach here.
What the f#*k would that change? I would be happy to have him come here as a coordinator. He knows the culture and he runs a proven system. What I do know is that if Scoot Frost hadn't played for Tom Osborne, you would be more likely to see him as a viable candidate. sadThere is no guarantee that a first timer or a couple decades of experience will succeed or fail. What I do know though is that if Scott Forst hadn't played for Nebraska, his name would scarcely come up as a candidate to coach here. No, I'm pointing out the irrationality of your idea that hiring someone with experience is inherently better than hiring a first timer. So, you are insinuating that since Frank and Bo were both 1st time head coaches and won around 9 games a year, that is proof huring Frost would be our best option?
Riley would have still been below .500 while apologists excuse it with culture and luck. Also Coker at Miami was basically given a NFL team in college football. Even Bo Pelini could've won a MNC with that team.
No need for that is there?Riley would have still been below .500 while apologists excuse it with culture and luck. Also Coker at Miami was basically given a NFL team in college football. Even Bo Pelini could've won a MNC with that team.
Having a bad day?Riley would have still been below .500 while apologists excuse it with culture and luck. Also Coker at Miami was basically given a NFL team in college football. Even Bo Pelini could've won a MNC with that team.
Going deep in the well for this one aren't ya?What I do know is that if Scoot Frost hadn't played for Tom Osborne, you would be more likely to see him as a viable candidate. sadThere is no guarantee that a first timer or a couple decades of experience will succeed or fail.
Everyone on your list besides Stoops and Malzahn, who was gone only a year from Auburn, were apart of the staff when they got promoted HC. To me, this is more like Solich and TO and nothing like Frost coming here as a first time HC. Solich and those guys were already apart of the program that they took over and weren't coming in to a blind and new situation. Big difference in my eyes. There's no evidence that a first time head coach will be any better or worse than an experienced head coach.
Hiring Frost would be the same thing as when we hired Bo, you're right. But it would also be the same thing as hiring Bob Stoops at Oklahoma, or Kevin Sumlin at Texas A&M, or Chip Kelly at Oregon, or Gus Malzahn at Auburn, or Chris Petersen at Boise State, or Barry Switzer at Oklahoma, or Larry Coker at Miami.
Yep. Those are all the same thing in that they're coaches who had no experience running a program before they got hired.
I felt the same thing when reading that thread and your post. You did what the mods always say, attack the post not the posterI'm a little upset that I attacked a post and not a poster and it got moved to the offending post thread.
