Recruiting Comparison

Below are the comparisons of recruits brought in by Solich, Callahan, and Pelini. I think one of the main things to look at is what the coach left for the other. Unless you are bringing in a major recruit or Jucos - they usually aren't going to be a major asset to your team within their first 2 years at the program. Especially when we change the offensive and defensive system/schemes. Thus showing the importance of taking what you have and making the best of it.

Not trying to point anything out, just was curious myself on the issue.

There was a pretty good thread a while back that talked about attrition. Pelini brought in some decent classes. But it seems like, for whatever reason, we'd lose a couple of his best players each year. I'm not saying the attrition was Pelini's fault. I'm not saying it's not his fault either. But regardless of the reason, the roster today doesn't reflect the recruiting ratings of the past four or five years.

OTOH, Pelini did a much better job of recruiting and playing walkons than Callahan did. So there's that.

In Callahan's 4th season (2007) he was still starting 7 Solich recruits on offense.

So, what criteria did you pull out of your butt to determine who was "notable"?

Who was a good starter on offense that year that was from Solich?? Joe Dailey doesn't count

In Callahan's 4th season (2007) he was still starting 7 Solich recruits on offense.

So, what criteria did you pull out of your butt to determine who was "notable"?

He said year 4 (2007), which, ostensibly, if the recruiting was so bad under Solich, most of those guys would have been replaced by kids from the '05, '06 and '07 classes.

Nate Swift was one. Obviously, he fit your mysterious "notable" criteria, but you have him listed as a Callahan recruit. He was Solich's first commit for the '04 class. Committed in June of '03.

There are tons more examples. Dane Todd was a Solich kid. He made first team All Big 12 for Callahan in '06. There were also about 14 guys on Callahan's first roster that went on to sign NFL contracts.

Just start over and list all the players.

Why do you talk to people like that and what makes you think it's okay? Maybe even bigger question is why do the mods here continue to ignore it?

The biggest issue with recruiting and how those recruits ended up was that over the last 10 years, it seems like the most sought after recruits in the classes are the ones that either leave or don't contribute. You would think the best scenario is that most of the highly talented recruits come in and contribute with some of the lower talented recruits be a surprise and blending in with the others. Our problem is, it's just the opposite. It's like the 4 star players come in and have an attitude of entitlement, the lower rated players work harder and beat them out. BOTH groups need to be working their buts off to get on the field.

Yeah, it's been discussed a lot.

Show's NU at 36% which is third or fourth in the B10, though there are a number of teams at +/- 2% of 36% (Northwestern is an outlier at only 20%)

According to Rivals Lance Brandenburgh was the first commit for the '04 class. He was July and Swift committed in August.

Also Corey McKeon and Tierre Green are 2003 recruits that started every game in 2007. So they should probably be listed next to Bo Ruud.

Playing football is a skill that is (or isn't) taught, it isn't a talent that is inherited.

So when it comes to good players Coaching + Conditioning > Recruiting + Stars.

The trouble is, we have too many people paying for magazines and scouting reports and insider feeds to believe that it all just hokum.

According to Scout, Swift committed June 14, 2003. Brandenburgh was June 30.
