GBRedneck

I'd rather crack down on nobody than everybody.

I am starting to think, though, that he and RADAR (if he's still around ) need to both be told to knock it off about those nicknames. It's one thing to use a nickname for a coach, goodness knows there are plenty of those. If it's a repeated tactic used to get a rise out of people you're arguing with, that's a problem. And if "getting a rise out of people" is the only way someone can post, they will not be missed. But give plenty of chances to that end; it's an annoyance and that's too much a subjective area to intervene hastily. (Last year, there was far too much "this poster annoys me. When are you going to ban him, mods?" Don't want to feed into that.)

He doesn't seem to do it all the time, I seen a post of his this morning that didn't have it in there, but he seems to do it just to piss people off. JMO

He's very good at getting under people's skin, but staying just inside the rules. Even if he isn't breaking any rules he is still an asshat of major proportions.

Agree with this.

I've been trying to watch more closely for off-topic posts. It's pretty hard for the 24-48 hours after a loss as everything gets bombarded. But I've PMed a few people to tell them not to post .500-related things, 2-star recruit items, etc. just for the sake of posting it. Same as the thread I pinned in the Football forum.

If we can try to stay on top of that a little more, I think people will get the hint.

But if we're worried about trolls, we need to make sure we're also staying on top of the people who troll them back. A lot of times it's going both ways.

I'm really hesitant to take any action on something like a nickname for a coach - assuming it's no slanderous. We can't protect the tender sensibilities of the members. And it becomes extremely subjective and therefore hard to enforce. If folks don't like one member's nickname, they can put them on ignore. I realize emotions run hot - we all want the same thing, we just don't agree on the means to get there.

Sent him the following PM:

You really need to tone it down a bit. I agree with a lot of what you have to say but you need to go about it differently. Constantly talking bad about the coaches isn't going to get you anywhere. When you talk about specific plays or what happened you're in good shape. But throwing out things like Riley doesn't even know what's going on is really not productive.

There is a saying that's been around here for awhile that if someone has a problem with you, that's on them. If everyone has a problem with you, you may be the problem. I'm afraid you're getting into that territory. People aren't listening to a lot of what you have to say because of how you say it.

If that pattern continues, it will basically have to be considered trolling and have to be treated as such.

I sent GBRedneck the following PM, and moved this post LINK to the Offending Post Thread in the Shed. I also assessed him a warning point and gave him a one day suspension.

PM to GBRedneck:

Your post in the Eichorst thread is trolling. It's clear you're just trying to get under the guy's skin. It doesn't further the conversation or express an opinion, or for that matter even relate to the topic at hand.

I'm giving you a one day suspension. I can tell you are quite knowledgeable about Husker football, and sports in general. You could be one of our best posters if you wanted to. I hope it works out that way eventually.

NUance

Some of GBRedneck's comments are exciting the natives again. I removed some of the offending posts, but I do not think that any one was that bad. I think his posting style is simply abrasive and has worn on the board. I was thinking about giving him another warning for "Conduct Detrimental to Huskerboard", but with three warnings already since September, I would guess that would come with a vacation. Thought I would ask everyone before proceeding. Here recent offensive post that got is started.

In Callahan's 4th season (2007) he was still starting 7 Solich recruits on offense.

So, what criteria did you pull out of your butt to determine who was "notable"?

To his credit he later apologized for that remark in the thread.

I think GBRedneck is going to turn into one of our better posters. If he survives here long enough. He's quite knowledgeable and articulate. I can't say the same about some of the other recent members who came on at the same time.

Correction, Mav sent him a PM after his "outburst", so I guess his apology was thanks to Mav. We'll see how long he keeps his attitude in check.
