The Village of the "Banned"

I don't get this falling on your sword "please ban me" bullsh#t. Grow the f#*k up and don't read the board if you don't want to see stupid sh#t. That's why I'm not around here that much, and why I make only a couple post a week in the football forum. True doing it is even more baffling. For a guy that talked a tough game I expected more.
QFT

Grow a sack.
You don't have to have testicles to not ask someone to ban you.
A spine then? M'lady?

I'm sure True thought it was best just to have the mods ban him on his request instead of going off on some peehole and getting the ax for good. Maybe when sh#t settles down some and these wankers leave, True might come back.

I post on this board a couple times a week now, I cant handle some of these clowns. It makes my heart hurt not to be on here shootin the sh#t with you guys every day. But for my sanity and for my good standing on this board, I have to abstain from too much HB

BRI- I didn't mean to bag on the mods. But they (you) do happen to be the only ones who can remedy some of these problems. I think you guys do a greatly job and are fair and equitable most all of the time. The problem really isn't the mods but rather the rules that govern what action the mods take. Moiraine had a good suggestion that posting the same thing repeatedly, in multiple threads, especially when the gist of it is negative and anti-Nebraska, should be a greater offense than, say, calling somebody, who is acting like a tool, a tool.

Trust me, I don't envy the mods job nowadays. This place is a hot mess.
The enforcement of the rules is there to try and make sure everyone can be a solid member here. Plenty of people don't start out on the right footing, but they get it (sometimes after a few nudges in the right direction). Others don't, but a permanent ban is a permanent ban...it's not somewhere I want to go until we really have to give up on a guy.

Really, winning is a cure all. If we aren't 3-6 (4-6 now, praise Cthulhu) there isn't so much negativity. If we are 3-6, there's a lot of fans who are going to be mad and who will, in the eyes of us select reasonable folk
default_biggrin.png
, be holding onto some crazy opinions. But, they're fans too. They're welcome to stay and I mean, look at how many of those posters some have gotten in their minds to brand and hate have been gushing and celebrating over this win. Give your fellow poster a chance.

Lastly, keep in mind that there's plenty of folks that get warned. No amount of getting rid of users will stop the complaining that not enough users have been banned. I'm sure a lot of the posters complaining don't even realize it when one of the targets of their complaints does end up suspended. Yes, there's plenty of places to be negative around here, but there's also plenty of positivity here to focus on -- if you want it.

Unfortunately seasons like this bring morons out of the woodwork and they tend to get negative and lose their minds.

You know they're morons and don't positively contribute to the board.

We know they're morons and don't positively contribute to the board.

This is a messageboard run by gracious volunteers and isn't accountable to anyone in particular, and thus, can hypothetically do whatever it wants.

Yet here we are, with too many obvious negative morons, still here.

That's why people are frustrated.

Our requirement is only, "be civil." It's not to make subjective calls, and what counts as "moronic/non-contributing" is a lot more subjective than I think you'd prefer it to be.

Devil's advocate, though: even if a guy comes in here and totally doesn't fit in, or has different views -- they get chances. Some of them turn into great members. Can think of a few.

The bottom line is, there are going to be people who post silly and disagreeable things on a public, online message board for everyone. There are also plenty of people who don't. If someone wants to focus only on the former, I'm afraid that is *their* choice. Needing so and so banned is no way to go.

Folks that truly lose their minds use up their chances very quickly. Again -- to nobody (well, few people)'s notice, as evidenced by the argument above, which makes it seem as if warnings and suspensions (some severe) aren't routinely being handed out. That's okay; not worrying about other people's run-ins with the moderating team is probably for the best.

zoogs i'm totally on board with the philosophy and what you guys do here, obviously, since i was somehow turned into the main culprit of the big purge a few months ago in the eyes of those banned, but there are some people who don't really deserve or need the long leash, especially when they create an account out of the blue and something like 75-90% of their post content isn't worthwhile.

OK -- please report it. And if there's a case where you have something to report and can't understand why no action was taken, let me know and I'll see if I can respond to it.

I try to give everyone as much leash as possible. I understand it might be frustrating, but I think it's just being fair to them. I don't want things to end in permanent bans. Even an indefinite suspension, IMO, is better. Hope you guys can understand that. At some point we give up and call it, but there's no coming back from that :/ A lot of past bans I wish would never have come to that point, but it did, and those are episodes I don't want to repeat.

FrustratedHuskerFan earned a two-month suspension with this post:

I'm rooting for Michigan state to embarrass these clowns. More losses means we will only get closer to starting over. A real fan would want Michigan state to embarrass Mike Riley to no end
He had several other posts that could have earned a penalty. But this one was over the top. Two month suspension.

well done. that dude got old quick. I understand being frustrated this season but to hope for a big loss just push an agenda on the staff is messed up. I do not agree with some of the things this staff does that being said I don't want to see them fail.

So, Ive only been a mod for a short while, but some of this kind of thinking is kinda silly. I can't speak for all the mods/admins, but I can say that we have done alot of culling and worked on trying to keep things from going to sh#t. But, we're not going to ban people just for just being negative. Many of the posters folks are lamenting about being gone, would have been banned at least a year ago under this "negative asshat posting" criteria. A certain poster and his crew would have been gone a long, long time ago.

Are we perfect? Hell no. But this place is alot more open than any of the other big Husker centric message boards. From my limited time, we're not trying to be ticky tack with every little thing, and we like to give people a little grace and let them play. But if the poster is just being a d!(k? They're gone.

And I'm super bummed to see True go. I've PM'd him recently after he was awol for awhile, and he just can't take any type of negativity right now, and it sucks.

Nobody wants people banned just for being negative so I'm not sure why that continues to be brought up.

To break my own rule that I think we should have:

People shouldn't be allowed to post the same f'ing sh#t over and over in topic after topic. I don't care if it's positive. I don't care if it's negative. The spamming of the same sh#t with slightly modified wording needs to stop. Make your damn point in 1-3 posts per week. Then after the next game make again if you want. Don't post the same thing 20 times in 2 days with nothing added.

As far as the mods being great and volunteers, etc., I get that. I was a mod for a band with a bunch of emo gothic teenage fans who were constantly filled with angst. I understand you can't please everyone.

That being said I'm stating my opinion rather than just leaving. It doesn't mean I dislike any of you.

Well, when things are ugly, ugly comes out of the woodwork. We're going to see some people running around trashing the board. I agree, they shouldn't be allowed to. And they aren't! I believe 5+ suspensions of varying lengths have been handed out in the past three days. Although for every one we get, another will pop up.

They'll get as many chances as they show they deserve. If it's just an guy being angry after a game, yeah, he'll get a chance to settle down and show something different. At some point, we have to decide that they either can't help it, or are being intentional about it. In most cases it takes a few talking-tos first before arriving at the "final ban" conclusion, but some people don't even show the need for that.

Please note that "trashing the place" covers attacking other users, as well. We can't let these guys come here doing it, which does mean that nobody can (even at them), regardless of how pleasant you are 95% of the time. I understand people get really annoyed at each other sometimes, but please let other people get in trouble for deciding to take it out on someone on the board. Makes our job easier. Nobody deserves to be attacked; we can't allow it.
