Was wondering this myself.#3 in the playoff last year to now will MSU even make a bowl game this year? Was Narduzzi really the secret sauce?
Their spite has no ends. They're simply saving their Sparty powers to upset Michigan next week.
Here's the thing. MSU should not be even half as good as they have been over the last half-decade plus. Mark Dantonio is one of the top 3 coaches in the entire game and has done something that, honestly, nobody has ever really accomplished before - not even Nick Saban. He's made a mostly-perennial powerhouse out of a non-blue blood with junk for resources. He's allowed to have a down or even awful year once every 4-6 years or so, because he has overachieved by a landslide at that school.

Agree, but to the bolded: Snyder
Snyder has done something similar over a longer period of time, but without the hardware and accolades to show for it. Dantonio has done it in a shorter timespan, but has had more success in said timespan. Here's the thing. MSU should not be even half as good as they have been over the last half-decade plus. Snyder never got to where Dantonio has, imo. He had a great run in the late 90's of a handful of top-10 finishes but really struggled to get to the level of conference championships, major bowls and in the end of season hunt to play for it all. But point well taken.
It has helped that up until now, Michigan has been dog. Here's the thing. MSU should not be even half as good as they have been over the last half-decade plus. Yeah, the rise of Michigan State was helped by the fall of Michigan (as well as a down Ohio State in 2011 and average Nebraska teams). Dantonio is a good coach and had a great 3-year run from 2013-2015. But, that's the best 3-year run in school's history. They won the Big Ten and got to the playoff last year by complete fluke. I think they will be hard-pressed to get back to that level. It has helped that up until now, Michigan has been dog. Here's the thing. I think this year the lack of talent on both lines is starting to catch up to them. McDowell is great, but who do they have after that?
