Hittin' the links: Golf talk

First night of league cold/wind/rained out.

Playing this past month I've been driving the ball as well as I ever have. But my short game is in the toilet. Sand is a nightmare. I can't chip worth crap. And I cannot sink a putt to save my life. Three putts used to be uncommon. Now, two or three times per nine. And my scores have ballooned up as a result.

Example: I played a 598 yard par 5 yesterday. After two strokes I was sitting 130 from the green. It took me five more strokes to hole out. Sitting out there at 130 yards I thought I had decent potential for a birdie. Should've at least made par. Instead, I put it in the sand and three putted for a double bogie.

I shot 73 today at Firekeeper GC and qualified for the 2017 Kansas Amateur @ Kansas City Country Club! 51 golfers for only 18 spots, and the scoring was much lower than I've experienced in past qualifiers despite some good Kansas winds.

Got bored and started looking through the scores for the hell of it. The Hillyard guy that shot even is from the same hometown as I am. Won the PubLinks here in Omaha a couple years ago in the championship flight. Didn't realize he had moved down south.

Why Spieth's chicken-wing swing works so well. LINK (video)

The gist of the video is that they say his bent left arm keeps the club face square to the target for slightly longer than those who have a fully extended left arm. I'm not sure why this would be true. But that's what I got out of the little video.

It's also no surprise. Can be a bit of hot head at times from what I hear. But when he's on he's pretty damn good.

Haven't watched the video but from the description he would be kind of "dragging" the club head through the hitting zone instead of more of a constant rotation. The the club face would be perpendicular to the target line for a slightly longer time as the rotation slows compared to a regular swing.

Someone on here who has done so before needs to put together a HB golf outing/scramble for the morning of the Arkansas State game. Nothing like starting the tailgating nice and early and you would think we could get a decent turn out for it.

GREAT idea! I wonder how many golfers are going to Arky? (I'd like to, but don't think I can make it.)
