Political DBag Hall of Fame

Yes. I didn't realize NM's avatar was politically-themed. I've never read it. But yes, if we're supposed to be keeping political discussion in P&R, then avatars & Status Updates, even intentionally vague ones, should be kept free of it.
OK. Just wanted to make sure I had the temperature of the conversation gauged correctly. I also did not know NM's avatar either - I had to have another mod point it out to me as part of the conversation.

I never read it either. Sorry NM. I did notice the swastika avatar but didn’t remember which poster had it.

I almost wonder if P&R should have a password and you need to have 15 posts on the board to show you’re here mainly for Husker talk before you can get the PW.

For the record, I think that goes for your avatar as well. Intentionally pointing out the Empire's few mistakes while failing to give equal evidence of the horrors wrought by those Rebel scum doesn't seem to have a place on this board.

If we're going to have a minimum post count for something like that, I'd increase it to more than 15.

Add FrankWheeler’s avatar to the list. I’m tired of seeing Trump’s d!(k pic.

Ok, 200 then. It makes logical sense to me that the people involved in a naturally heated topic such as politics or religion be people who are interested in having a civil discussion and remaining members of Huskerboard long term.

I don’t want the forum to die though and maybe that would kill it.

I'm not opposed to this. The vast majority of reports and general board "issues" we have either occur, or started in the P&R forum. Most of the long time posters in there know what's allowed, and follow the rules.

That's different from the dark ages when I was a mod, but I think we're in a far more divided political time now, which probably lends itself to that forum being more of a lightning rod.

I think the P&R forum has the potential to be a good part of this board, but it's easy to abuse, too. I would hate to see it go, but I sometimes wonder what HuskerBoard would be like if it was gone. Maybe it would be like a dish with salt but no pepper.

That would suck. It’s the only place I talk politics online.

I don't think we should get rid of it, but I do think we can make some tweaks.

My only real concern with P&R (and this is something I've mentioned before) is that it generates an odd influx of participants from time-to-time. Most of our long time members manage the forum just fine with the occasional hiccup, but I don't understand the people who join the board for the primary purpose of discussing politics, and heatedly discussing politics to the point that they have to personally attack others. Of all the available vessels, HB feels like an odd one to choose. That's where something like a post limit would be interesting to consider.

Perhaps it's a password protected system that requires a minimum of 250 board posts (or something like that) before a mod will give you the password. That would've eliminated the last three major P&R problems I can remember off the top of my head.

Might as well get rid of the eyerolls as well. It's obvious Huskerboard can't handle them - either with people's reactions/frustration towards receiving them or people's trollish intent to cower behind them.

That would at least prevent the potential of socks being created just to go stir stuff up in P&R. Especially if you set the post minimum in the hundreds, I can't imagine anyone going through the monotony of posting hundreds of times in a sports forum they don't really care about just to be able to troll our politics section.

FWIW, as for avatars, I noticed Dewiz's yesterday and eye-rolled hard. I didn't really care to report it though. It would be the equivalent of me changing my avatar to the Obama Hope logo. On a message board about Husker sports. It's like - yeah, I could, but that's just tacky and weird and why would I?

Personally I'm in favor of letting that stuff go, unless it becomes a problem. I don't care if what people change their avatar to - I'll just think it's very odd people feel the need to support (or protest) politicians with them, here of all places.

Good lord, I really want to eyeroll this.

EDIT: For the record, I did not.
