Maurice Washington Faces Charges

I don’t think the decision is that tough. If he was accused of rape/murder I’d probably think differently. There are some crimes you’d want to be a lot more cautious about instead of just waiting on the justice system.

I think what should be done is he plays until the legal process is over. Then to show you think it’s serious, punish him harshly. Make him sit a # of games based on what you find out.

Additionally I think he’s earned some time on the bench because of his decision making after the fact. This all came out in Feb, (if I remember correctly). He of all people should have been on the straightest and narrowest path. Then he gets busted for weed. (For the record, I don’t really care about weed, but it’s a pretty easy rule to follow) Yes it got thrown out because of a technicality. But it shows a pattern of poor decision making. 

Maybe I am taking it more seriously than folks here and the media at large. But I wouldn’t be shocked if this story grew legs and got a lot of attention.

The bolded is where issues arise. You can't just sit him for a game or two if his case is caught up in the courts. One game would work but after that you eitger have to play or sit him until its resolved. As others have stated, that is a bit unfair. I do understand the pattern of behavior, but I think the rest of your concerns are overblown. This I don't see going anywhere in the national media whatsoever. LeGrone and Hunts situation would garner national attention if rumors are true and  they weren't suspended, but this story doesn't have legs to stand on IMO. Child pornography is a very flimsy charge in this case and thats the only felony at play.

A coach can most certainly sit him for any reason he sees fit.  Regardless of tie ups in court.

 
This story already had its play in national media and it was a small story that lasted a day or two just stating what he was charged for and I haven't seen anything outside of local media since. The exception is a few mentions that his status is up in the air. Unless there is a major development such as this is worse than originally perceived, he's suspended for a significant amount of time or something else I don't see this getting much if any national media attention.

Of course he can but what happens when you sit him 2 games to start the season and he gets convicted later. Sit him again? What happens if you sit him until the situation is resolved and the charges get dropped at the end of the season? I mean obviously you can sit whoever for whatever reason as a coach, but lets not be niave. If Mo sits, its because of this court case so lets not act like that doesn't matter. I know what our coach can do, I'm discussing what I think he will do.

If he sits, it will be because of his previous actions. The court case is simply exposing those actions to the public.

In a perfect world that sounds great but there are 2 problems I see with that. A. If he is convicted later, how will 'he already was punished for that' play? Not well imo, though it could be navigated. But the more important point is B. which is what happens if the charges get dropped completely? I guess a few games in exchange for better optics isn't a terrible trade off but its unfair to Mo. And honestly I'm not convinced the optics are that bad on this.

 
There may not be much mention of the case in the news now but you can count on commentators bringing it up during broadcasts for a while, whether he plays or not.  I personally think it's crazy to punish someone for something completely unrelated to the university or the team, prior to a court finding him guilty in this case.  If the charges were for something violent, and there was sufficient reason for the university to believe it was true, I may feel differently.

Yeah, but commentators bring up a lot of random crap and I don't think the average viewer pays that much attention. Especially first game of the year, most teams have a list of guys suspended/currently working through legal issues. I would bet they mention Hunt, LeGrone, and Washington altogether (maybe even mentioning the earlier pot citations for a few guys), and I would expect the focus to be more on Hunt/LeGrone since they're definitely suspended.

Here’s the problem: Mo's case is anything but the "standard" boyfriend-girlfriend sexting like is being talked about here. He objectively possessed (at least long enough to forward) a video of his ex girlfriend (allegedly) being sexually assaulted. He clearly knew her thoughts on the video. He then possessed that video (probably for close to 4 years) long enough to use it to revictimize her. That's only the misdemeanor, and you may or may not be right on the revenge porn charge. His felony is for possession, which couldn't be clearer.

Mo screwed up badly by having the video and sending it back. There’s no real debate that he possessed it. Now...is there a prosecutor looking to get a notch on a belt? Sure, they’re looking for a successful prosecution under a new law. 

This is going to trial unless he pleads out. And the team is going to have to do something.

Unless the University is expecting some kind of news before 5pm tomorrow, they already know everything they are going to know before game time.  So, it appears to me that the staff knows what they are going to do but don't want it released before the game.  Probably to prevent making it even more of a distraction before the game.

Yep. My thoughts are he is playing. Unless there is plea negotiations and they could reach a settlement at any time and until Frost knows the verdict he wont decide.

Much easier to get him into the game without some announcement about it.  Put him, he plays a little...game ends...you answer a few questions about it...Monday comes and you answer a few more and then it is done.
