The Village of the "Banned"

I'm not going to blanket defend every action.  Because there are myriad situations.  And sometimes it's hard to determine the exact course of action while trying to remain consistant and fair.

But considering you don't have any warnings yourself, I'm assuming you're getting this "information" from others who were on the receiving end.  And based on some situations I do have first-hand knowledge of and how that got repeated out on the main board, vary rarely is what is made available for public consumption exactly what happened let alone the whole story.

No, it was a situation where my posts were being deleted, leaving a weird hole in the thread that made it confusing. When I asked for clarification on the thread, those posts were also deleted. When I took it into PMs with the Moderator, he refused to respond. Another Moderator semi-apologized for him. There was nothing in my deleted posts that differed from other posts allowed to stand.

Something similar had happened to me before and since, and I suspect to others.  It's not hard to see how these can escalate when only one party has the power to drop the hammer.

I always thought Count Bility was a reasonable and worthwhile poster, and we disagreed on a lot. I had epic bouts with  CM Husker and Ric Flair, but I never once wished they were gone. NuPolo was more interesting than a lot of posters, had a decent wit, seemed to be targeted as an early Bo critic.  True2TRA, what happened there?  I thought everyone had fun tweaking Scotty Ice. Elf's posts were generally smart. I understand Chimighangas had some kind of incident, but I didn't see anything unworthy of membership in her few thousand posts.

I understand that moderating can be time-consuming and thankless, but the decision to confront, warn, and ban posters often makes more work than it's worth.  My .02.

Count - He was a good person, met him IRL and had a pretty good tailgate (or maybe two, can't remember). I'll let the Mods explain why he got banned, but he wanted it and he earned it. More "suicide by cop" than overreacting Mods.

CM Husker - Sock account of formerly banned member.

Ric Flair - Pretty sure he dropped some pretty gross racist stuff that got bleached from the board.

Polo - Another good dude, met him in person for a beer, even left HuskerBoard with him in 2015 to start up a different forum that eventually went kaput. He, too, earned his ban, but that has some extra stories behind it involving PMs and the former owners of this site that, again, if the Mods want to disclose they can but I'm not going to.

True - another suicide by cop. He, also, is a good dude and someone I've met IRL, but he didn't want to be here anymore and forced the Mods' hand to ban him. He has other life responsibilities that are more pressing, but he was having a hard time stopping coming here to argue, and a particular phrase used to really piss him off (for very good reason, which, again, is not my business to disclose).

Scotty Ice - the Mods will have to tell us why he's gone. I always liked him, but others very clearly had different interactions with him.

Elf - I don't even remember this person.

Making Chimichangas - again, the Mods can disclose what she was banned for, but she was given a TON of leeway, and a TON of PM counseling sessions (here's what you're doing wrong, don't do that), before they banned her. And that's not the Mods overreacting, that's someone not following simple, basic rules.

Pretty good synopsis by knapplc. Some of those were before my time and/or have a deep seeded history that's not worth diving into IMO, but a few of those names are routinely brought up so I don't think it really hurts to elaborate a bit more on what knapplc said for those select folks.

Ric - Routine history of issuing personal attacks and racist materials. The racist material was what brought down the ban hammer. There's a line between sharing dissenting opinions and acting like a bigot. He crossed that line.

Scotty - Complete inability to control himself. Dude earned nine separate warnings during his tenure here. Most of them were personal attacks. I even personally reached out to him on at least one occasion via PM instead of issuing him a warning. We went above and beyond for him. I don't want to speak for the other mods, but he's somebody we may have considered letting back down the road if he could've grown up, but he chose instead to create multiple socks without even trying to hide his identity.

MC - I think I brought this up recently and I want to be careful about how I phrase this since I may not have had the best word choice then. MC was a member for approx. two years and racked up five warnings. Three were personal attacks. They were also suspended once for posting a status update that called for the execution of elected government officials and warned not to do so again. The ban was inclusive of a number of things (including the inability to have civilized conversation, particularly in P&R) but the actual 'final straw' was a meltdown-like post about the Trump administration that included more threatening remarks targeted at government officials. Obviously, that couldn't be tolerated.

Well, good. I was just thinking it would be interesting if someone made a primer on why some of the more colorful former members were no longer around and now y'all kinda did.

Was it Count or True that was going through some personal stuff and decided they needed to leave the board by straight-up forcing the mods to ban them? Because I remember that going down but I can't remember who.

I spend a lot of time in P&R so MC was the one I interacted with most. She had an interesting perspective but it was pretty clear she was having a really difficult time with our political environment and she was not able to filter her emotions generally ever, leading to what Enhance posted above and her being very aggressively belligerent to those who challenged her in P&R.

Matty was kind of a board meme and IIRC some of the mods thought for a while he was starting to calm down a bit and get it but ultimately yeah he just couldn't help himself at all.

I still smile thinking about all the nonsense Polo and his crew brought to the board. He was a legitimately funny dude. That Pony Posse s#!t was pretty weird. IIRC he was given a lot of slack but ultimately earned his hammer.

I just can't get over how incessantly Redux whined and whined and whined about not being treated fairly in P&R, moaning about people calling him a Trump supporter, echo chamber, blah blah blah.

While all this time he had an alt-right sock account :rollin  Jesus Christ, man. I personally don't plan on ever letting him live down how hilariously pathetic that is, if/when he comes back.

Is he just MIA since it was discovered he had a sock? It's been 21 days since he posted. I'm guessing it's voluntary since he's not banned.

It's been pretty common in the past for a new-ish account to roll into P&R, espouse a bunch of those same alt-right type views and start racking up a lot of +1s. They've frequently used this as evidence that people support their views but are afraid to admit it but I'm now wondering if those numbers were artificially boosted by socks.

As I recall it was both of them.

That was too bad for her and she was a representation of a huge problem in discourse/dialogue these days. Not being able to separate emotions and subjective experience in an argument. I always tried to help Chimi but this wasn't the place for her with where she was at in her own mental health.

The Pony Posse was my thing, but although I couldn't stand Polo he was sharp and hilarious at times. He was also a cult of personality who acted like he was bigger than and didn't need this place, and has shown his true desperate colors repeatedly trying to crawl back.

Seems like he's been given an extended "vacation".

I gave her a PM once as well with some advice and trying to show support but ultimately it was just too difficult for her to restrain herself. I hope she's well, wherever she is.

Who exactly was in the Pony Posse? I thought I recalled some Polo connection there. Your description of him was pretty apt. Perhaps he needed the board more than the board needed him.

s#!t now I miss zoogies.

I have communicated with zoogs a few times since then. Not often enough.

Do you guys remember @Nexus? From way back in the day?  Became a Mod and then abruptly stopped posting. I was really concerned that something happened. Then Nexus started posting again, just basic stuff, to say hello. Telling @zoogs that Nexus was back and apparently OK was about the last time we talked.

Zoogs is good people. We need more people like that here.

A couple of posts got removed from this thread (which is pretty remarkable) and suddenly PWB is gone.

Was it that post, was it that he was obviously some banned member's sock, or did the mods figure out he's the one who stole @Saunders secret oatmeal cookie recipe?
