The 2020 Attrition Thread

I think 80% of kids in the transfer portal are because they dont think they will see the field.  So they are probably not going to choose a school that is a coin flip they want the sure thing.

Therein lies the problem - they want a sure thing.   Not gonna find it very many places anywhere in life nor should they.  The key is whether the coaches are giving them a true, fair and honest chance to earn a spot.  I think the difficulty for players and especially coaches is to be sure assurances are clearly expressed throughout recruiting and time in the program that the best player wins the job but the competition continues all along.  Injuries of course happen and the competition should be open once health is no longer a factor.

Again - the entire team needs to know and believe that the best man wins based on reasonable and fairly objective standards.  Team unity and morale are critical to team success.  Not an easy line to walk for coaches and players alike but the best teams are grounded in this principle imo.

He was an EE who returned home when COVID started, however, there is smoke that he's staying home.

Yep.  They aren't required to be back in Lincoln yet.  So nothing seems definitive.  But less-than-great.

He and Speilman are the only two known to not be back yet (of those who were here in the spring).

Are Miami area guys just virus spooked?   No fans in stadium already announced.

It would not be a big shock if a couple players out of 150 didnt show in this insane year.

During stressful times, it’s normal for people (especially kids) to seek comfort. These new recruits are coming in from all over the country, and the early enrollees didn’t have much time to gain that comfort within Lincoln and their new teammates. Missing that Spring practice was an opportunity lost for the new players to see how they stack up with their new teammates and form bonds.  This occurrence isn’t necessarily a negative on anyone, it’s just a side effect from the current times.
