Tangent Thread - P&R Edition

As long as we're in the Shed anyway...

Our country is stuck in neutral right now because we have a lazy, ignorant president who can't be bothered to do anything difficult that requires sustained effort and seriousness lest it cut into his Fox News and golf time.

So he punted to states to absolve himself of responsibility and downplayed the seriousness of this crisis for months on end until it became clear he couldn't ignore it anymore. Even now he can't be bothered to be bothered with the truth about the matter and trots out the same old crap about things just looking bad because we test too much. Along the way he convinced enough selfish and/or misinformed people to not take it seriously and now look where we are. No football.

It's been kept in check in lots of other developed countries. It requires strong leadership and a society-wide effort.

Trump's a lazy, dishonest dope and he marched us straight into hell on this deal by abdicating leadership. Now we're all reaping the rewards.

Spring football will be played.  Sit tight folks, this all starts to go away in November.

@HuskerNation1

I appreciate your reply, and you’re right about Fauci using his mask inappropriately at the game. We all shook our heads at that too. However, I’ll push back on the context that he said COVID wasn’t an issue.

You’re taking Fauci’s quote completely out of context. If you’re going to quote somebody, please use the entirety of the quote and the context in which it was given. Don’t do what Steve Bannon did and take the part of the quote that fits your narrative. What Fauci actually said was this:

Quote 1 - “ Obviously, you need to take it seriously and do the kind of things the (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and the Department of Homeland Security is doing. But this is not a major threat to the people of the United States and this is not something that the citizens of the United States right now should be worried about."

So Fauci, in a qualified response said, don't worry "right now;" "you need to take it seriously;" and although "this is not a major threat," keep an ear open to the CDC and Homeland Security.

Quote 2 - “

On Jan. 26, Fauci gave an interview to John Catsimatidis, a syndicated radio host in New York. "What can you tell the American people about what's been going on?" Catsimatidis asked. "Should they be scared?"

"I don't think so," Fauci said. "The American people should not be worried or frightened by this. It's a very, very low risk to the United States, but it's something we, as public health officials, need to take very seriously."

Fauci reiterated that COVID-19 "isn't something the American people need to worry about or be frightened about" because, at the time, it was centered in China and the U.S. could screen travelers from that nation.

But Fauci also twice described the virus as "an evolving situation," and said, "Every day, we have to look at it very carefully."

At that time, the US government had a lot to worry about, but the American citizens did not because we had the advantage of controlling it from the get go. That changed when the government failed in its duties.

Fauci also predicted that Trump and team would face a Potential threat in 2017. https://www.healio.com/news/infectious-disease/20170111/fauci-no-doubt-trump-will-face-surprise-infectious-disease-outbreak

The reason is because we’re constantly watch and observing outbreaks. It was a matter of time before one with the R0 value of COVID hit. We had good plans in place for an outbreak like this, the government failed to execute them. That’s when the decision turned quickly to flattening the curve.

Since you claim to know that we SHOULDN'T be playing football based on what we don't know (fear) , would you care to inform us all what activities it is OK to engage in?  Because  as a free grown a$$ man in Nebraska I really need your input with my life too, even though I am not a 23 year old man on a football team.
We shouldn't be playing football because its a ridiculous drain of resources at a time when this world is completely upside down.  Think bigger picture for a moment and not just the view out of your backyard.  Traveling to play rutgers where this stuff is going around like wildfire, is it really worth the risk for us to fly out 100+ players, a coaching 20+ coaching staff, and prolly another 30-40 personnel between handing the team gear, logistics, media/marketing type roles for broadcasting purposes where they will need to stay for a few days at said location to play this game?

Does this satisfy my selfish need to watch football? sure does... wheres my skin in the game? absolutely nothing..... so yeah, i really dont think we should be playing football when ultimately this is being driven by the selfish interest of fans (like me and you) when ultimately we have nothing to lose.

We have no idea what the long term consequences are here... Its not like this isn't public knowledge.  There are plenty of pros who have come out saying this simply isnt worth the risk.... yet we're making the claim here its perfectly fine for unpaid amateur atheltes to take the same risk? lol right

BTW nupowr, this is a message board brah.  If you cant grasp the concept that all of these posts are opinions than i dont know what to tell you.

I shouldn't be shocked by your inability to see the bigger picture, nupowr.  You strike me as someone who rarely sees the bigger picture or considers how the world operates in ways that are broader than just your day to day.  I could really care less wtf you do with your sad state of life and think its absolutely hilarious you get this  upset as if I'm infringing on your freedom lol.

I assume your ability to have an educated conversation and at least listen to a different perspective is probably non-existent- keep on complaining to people that the gov is stripping away your liberties by making you wear a mask.. you just reek of this type of take which is no shock coming from the gutter of society such as yourself.
