Tangent Thread - P&R Edition

Before Friday night I would disagree. However, while at a Biden/Harris rally (there because I won't vote Trump but hoping to be convinced that Biden might be an improvement. Left certain that I won't vote for either) the speaker commented that everyone should follow the covid guidance being pushed as it is intended to remove the current administration. The speaker was asked about the B1G season and the response was "your conference is home to 4 huge battleground states so I'll leave you to figure out why there's no B1G sports". My jaw hit the floor. Never did I expect leadership in this country to go to such lengths.

Unfortunately everything is political these days, and I am not suprised that you heard what you did.  The primary focus of the Dem Party and Biden campaign is to keep the pain from Covid present in the minds of voters long enough that it will help them politically in November.  Covid has really given them a lifeline as the US Economy was on a record-setting pace prior to the pandemic, and they are going to use that lifeline as long as possible.  I am proud to see the players and their parents stand up against the BIG ruling and I hope something good will come of it.

Very plausible that the swing states of Ohio, penn, Wisconsin and Iowa can swing this election. Im not a conspiracy theory black helicopter guy and while conservative, don’t like trump. but anything that disrupts our lives like not having football can very well influence how people feel about their well being.

We know warren has aggressively got the big 10 athletes registered to vote and made them aware of how candidates stand on certain issues. He also has a race relations initiative up and running to stamp out structural racism. It’s not a jump at all to think warren could play an important role in this election by shutting down football until January

Those statements are incredibly damning. I'd expect they'd be recorded, the speaker cited by name, and the incident would spread quickly on the internet and major conservative news sources. Any follow up to this?

Man, it's really frustrating that we still get new posts in this thread.. Every time I check the board to see what's up and there is something new here, I get my hopes up that there is still a chance we get some football this fall, only to be let down all over again... Damn this sucks.

This isn't about masks or numbers, it is about November 3rd.

You guys do know that this is going on all over the world, in countries with a wide variety of governments and leaders, many of them enlisting even stronger restrictions on the public, most of them doing a much better job than the United States, and none of it having to do with November 3rd, right?

Isn't it Nov 8th?

One thing, when I do catch the news, the world coverage of this is no longer covered as much/often.  Or at least it doesn't seem like it.

Anyone that thinks this is a hoax is nuts.  It is clearly real.

You do realize in other countries, even the one where it all started, have moved on and are continuing on with life/business as usual?

And you do realize where their current numbers are compared to ours, right?
The problem is the numbers.   We dont really know what the true #s are around the world not across this country.  False reporting, false testing, inaccurate data, etc etc etc.  Politics being played all over.  Major media not even attempting to be honest or neutral or unbiased on any subject.  The general public has no reliable or trustworthy source for news on virtually any issue.

No wonder you get public policy (Big Ten to elections to economics etc) that seems irrational and knee jerk.

This being the case, where do you get your news? And how do you know any news is true or untrue?

Do people really go through life thinking that everything they see, hear and read is fake?

I'm not necessarily going to disagree with any of this.  Maybe this is happening and I'm just not aware, but I haven't seen any people reporting that the UK, Italy, Germany, Canada, etc are being accused of under-reporting their numbers.

Very true. The mainstream media, have little credibility with most free thinking Americans. The alternative media’s record isn’t consistent either. So many of us are so skeptical now we don’t know who to trust for our information.

I understand American journalism sensationalizing almost everything.  That's gonna happen when they have to "sell a product" rather than "provide a service."

But I challenge you to go to the super duper liberal CNN page right now and find just one article that is "fake".  I dare ya.

People who think all news is fake news aren't "free thinkers", they are "lazy thinkers".
